When did the Cypress Inn become the new ghetto hangout in Tuscaloosa?

Three people were wounded when gunfire erupted early Sunday outside a popular Tuscaloosa restaurant and a nearby convenience store. Tuscaloosa police were dispatched about 1 a.m. to a disturbance at the Cypress Inn Restaurant on Rice Mine Road North. When they arrived, there were several vehicles in the parking lot and a large crowd of people

Would be nice if they could get a hold of this crime. There was just a shooting at an apartment complex over the weekend.

Would be nice if these idiots would just pack up and go to Mississippi or something. Tuscaloosa is actually doing a good job of bringing in businesses and rejuvenating its downtown, but of course it's going to be overshadowed by the ghetto trash that reside in a few areas.

Yeah, I guess I should have linked that. Mea culpa.

50 shots fired, and only one person hit. That's pretty unreal.

That area is still fine. I don't know of any previous incidents that have happened there.

Cypress Inn is not near any homes other than High Forest, which would not have any shootings, etc. However, Cypress Inn did add a Pavilion a few years ago for large parties. Perhaps this shooting was associated with a large party there?

Yes it was part of a large party. It was supposed to be for 350 people but over 1000 showed up and it got out of hand pretty quickly. The new owner should check references for the large parties but she doesn't.

What "references" would a restaurant get?

I saw two middle aged white guys duke it out in the parking lot one night around 97. One said the wrong thing to the other's wife and got his arse beat.

The large events are booked weeks or months or a year in advance. There is enough time to check out the people you are letting into your establishment.

Shooting at apt complex, 50 shots at Cypress, and the other night 50 shots at the Buddy's near McFarland.

These 2 were the same incident, or related incidents I believe. There were only a few shots fired at Cypress Inn, but around 50 at the Buddy's just down the street.

They were the same. Started at Cypress Inn, then they took the gunfight over to Buddy's.

Outside of game days, I haven't spent much time in Tuscaloosa..is violent crime really a problem in the city?

In a totally unrelated shooting last week TPD arrested a couple of former Wilcox basketball players for capital murder. Sad how these kids are destroying not only their lives but the victim and their families.

Yes, and has been for a decade or two. It's mostly been confined to the west side of town though.

There's been a rash of it close to campus though over the past 5 or 6 years that is largely swept under the rug by the city and University. Not necessarily murders, but armed robberies and such.
