I talked to a friend who is a LEO -- investigator with Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept.

His opinion, from his experience: the possession of a stolen weapon charge is a class C felony that will probably be reduced to a misdemeanor; if they are first time offenders it would normally be a plea bargain deal; perhaps a fine and probation; no jail time.

HOWEVER ... he went on to say, "You cannot predict what will happen in Louisiana, especially considering the offenders are Alabama football players."

Of course, if it happens as it normally does (no jail time; probation and a fine), you KNOW what rival fans will say (not that I care).

That's potentially great news for their futures.

However, I'm not sure they deserve to be a part of the team anymore.

i hope they never wear the uni again ... i'm sure a lot of bama fans will roll their eyes and argue about stupid decisions made by college kids who deserve a 2nd chance ... i'm under no illusions, however ... cam will be back, a most likely hj ...

To be fair, they did just suffer from 21-0 on that one.

I just can't take anyone who argues this seriously. Alcohol? Par for the course. Weed? Times they are a changing, so I can see it. Possessing a stolen gun? In no way is that a "stupid college mistake," and anyone who honestly believes it is is a bigger idiot than these two combined. Lots of things are easy to fall into in college, but stolen guns is not one of them, unless I just did college wrong altogether.

Get these guys outta here.

Yea, agree. I hope they flourish elsewhere and make millions in the NFL. I just think that sort of decision should end your ability to play football and attend the University of Alabama.

If they stole the gun, kick them out.
It's likely that they didn't know the gun was stolen.

Let's say your buddy sells you a car. While driving it you get pulled over for speeding. Then the cop arrests you for driving a stolen vehicle. Is it really your fault that the vehicle is stolen.

Sounds good - still a felony

Well, I would have gotten a title to the vehicle first, so the scenario is unlikely.

He used a poor example but the logic applies. I'm a big time hunter and buy guns (rilfles) from buddies all the time. There is no title or bill of sale required to do so. I trust it is on the up and up each time.

In no way defending the guys and still it's on you to know the source your buying from

Cam damn sure better have a bill of sale if we're gonna play the "I bought it from somebody" angle.

This is true. It's perfectly legal to buy a gun from anybody. If I'm not mistaken, all you have to do is give a reasonable explanation of how you got it.

BUT, I think the problem lies in the fact (correct me if I'm reading the laws wrong) that it's a felony to have even a legal gun in your possession, if you also have drugs.

And, this was such a stupid thing to do, they should probably just be kicked off the team. I mean, how fricking dumb can a person be? It would be a huge hit to lose Cam, and it might cost Bama a NC or SEC title. But damn, man.

I don't think it really matters.

Charges will be reduced.

Youthful offender, deferred prosecution.

They will miss a few games and hopefully realize they were being knuckleheads.

In LA there is an affirmative defense of not having knowledge that the chattel was stolen. That is a difference between AL and LA law.

Top things I would be interested in:
1. Who did the car being to?
2. Where were the guns found exactly?
3. Where exactly was the stolen gun found?
4. What admissions, if any, were made by Hootie and/or Cam?

Just some things to consider.

I have a feeling everyone on this forum would magically see this situation in a much different light if Cam Robinson played for Auburn.

It's a joke. He should be gone. Go play gangster somewhere else. I'm sure Urban's hiring.

Being a current Leo and a future attorney..who a person plays for means nothing to their particular case to me. Some FYI, graduates of AL School of Law saved Cam's and Auburn's bacon because of their dedication to their client, not their own personal biases.

What I'd like to know is how could someone that stupid be able to get into and stay in school at Alabama. Let's step back and look at the situation:
1) They were parked in a closed park (after hours) where it's ILLEGAL to be at that time. Any police officer that noticed would come to check the car.
2) They both possess bags of marijuana (ILLEGAL), and are/have been smoking it (ILLEGAL)
3) They both have firearms in their possession with one resting in a lap (ILLEGAL), and the other being stolen (DOUBLE-ILLEGAL)
And to top it off, one of the guys is/was a projected top-5 first round draft pick. Foe the life of me, I can't see how anybody could trust, much less depend on guys like that to keep the program successful. I know kids do dumb stuff, but this crap was way beyond just dumb!
