To be fair, average 2005 Big Ten offense was just I form power play and some lame Madden playbook play action passes.

I remember him [McCarron] well. I have a vivid recollection of him getting the best of a generational defense for LSU on his way to a national title.

You mean New Orleans right?
What about the game of the century? Six points?

I'm not going to criticize McCarron. He was a good quarterback He was developing in 2011 and his best game was the 13th game after a season of experience.

Nobody called him a "fake" quarterback when he went 7 quarters against LSU without a TD.

At this point I'm just perplexed at all the negativity regarding Milroe given that he is improving and there is absolutely no alternative at qb.

I was proud of Milroe for going through his progressions last night to hit 81 for a first down on 3rd and long. He had nothing deep and went to his like 5th read.

Milroe is getting better each week. I think Rees are trying to bring him slowly. I think there is reason to why Saban/Rees are being careful with him. I think they open up playbook a little against TAMU. People gotta realize Alabama is known to try not to open up the playbook unless it's necessary. I remember Mac Jones or someone said that they went through whole season not needing half of the playbook they worked on.

id rather see this milroe stat line that him throwing it a million times. If he throws it a million times we are gonna lose, if he gets high percentage good looks and makes them and also is running, we have a chance to be good. Bryce, Tua, and Mac are not walking through the door, we gotta do what we need to to win now, and that's pound the rock with the ribs, run milroe and work to get him passes he can make.

The thing is that the overall approach to this game on offense was not wrong. MSU was going to need Alabama to help them to win the game. Furthermore the 3-3-5 stack defense is ill-equipped to handle inside zone runs and power plays out of two TE sets. It just lacks the bodies to hold up to a committed run game. Conversely, MSU's defense is built to be an RPO stopper.

Rees was forced to draw up an offense with a fake QB. There is no basis in placing the blame on him at this point

What? What did he do with Simpson and Buchner vs USF?

Milroe is raw but has a skillset that few other CFB QBs in history have had. If you don't think he'd be the Heisman leader behind a Kiffin or Sark scheme to play to his strengths and develop his weaknesses, you are fooling yourself.

They'd both be chomping at the bit to employ that beast.

Rees is promising, but he needs to get out of the press box and broaden his aperture to figure out how to tame the Stallion and put him to use.

People still hating on Milroe kill me. I was admittedly a Ty Simpson guy. Still think he can be a really good QB. However, people are talking like JM isn’t getting better. With some time last night, he was able to get through progressions, and I said in the in game thread last night, the MSU game was his best to date. He isn’t any of the last three guys we have had here, but he doesn’t really need to be. Just keep improving and let the cards fall where they may. That’s all we can ask.

Alabama fans crack me up. Some really think being in the box vs on the field makes a difference

Complain to Coach Saban because it’s his offense.
LOLOL at you guys who blame coordinators as if Saban has 0 input.
It’s very simple. It’s the Jimmies and the Joes.

Who wants to bet you were one of the ones defending Golding and Bill O'Brien and blaming it on the "Jimmies and the Joes".

At this point anyone who says this when we have literally the best roster of talent in college football might be missing something upstairs.

Our problem has always been coaching at the coordinator level and development of talent.

Saban is a fault not because he hears a playcall seconds before it gets ran real time... it's because he hires these bad coordinators in the first place.

I know one thing. It might have been garbage time when he got in and showed his stuff but if its my call I'm playing that Haynes kid He looks like he was shot out of a cannon when he hits a hole and has fantastic balance.

I'll be the first to say there isn't much evidence to say he's a great OC. However. There are some things to consider.

#1 - new QB who is NOT referred to as "future 1st round NFL draft pick" by the experts. If you ran a wide open passing game I don't know if Milro is ready to do that yet.

#2 - We've been whining about not using the tight ends for... Possibly 20 years. We finally got what we wanted and we don't seem happy

#3 - The OL REALLY struggled out of the gate this year. They seem to be getting better now.

#4 - I'm speaking about the game this past Saturday. We were ripping them for 4 and 5 yards a pop right up the middle. If I'm the OC I'm going to ride that horse all the way to the Cheyenne Social Club.

Time will tell... Right now I just want to see the OL, the run game and Milro continue to improve every week.

Here's the hope in how Milroe develops

1) Stop making terrible INTs
2) Stop taking dumb sacks and throw the ball away
3) Make the easy passes so guys and make RAC yards
4) Go to the 2nd and 3rd reads

Milroe did all but #2 on Saturday. We will find out if he can keep it up against TAMU or if he regresses. I'd like to see him tuck it and run more against TAMU because he's not going to have all day to make reads.

next up, get milroe to throw the ball away and not take so many sacks. then, teach him how to check off to get the offense out of bad plays

Rees has definitely involved the TEs more. This year TEs are responsible for 22% of the catches and 30% of the yards (averaging 19.2 yards per catch!).

In the past Bama TEs caught about 12-15% of all throws and yards. So it's about double.

Small sample size, but still.

This seems like a stretch at best. Most of Niblacks receptions have come after scrambles, not designed plays for him.

Dippre is still not getting his number called near enough. Bama doesn’t have to use them like Georgia uses Bowers, but more obvious designs would be nice.

The pass to Niblack vs. MTSU would be nice to see again.
