And not being in two tight end sets 90% of the time. Milroe usually only has two man routes and no safety valve.

Chances are Milroe can’t actually run those efficiently given his documented issues with reading coverage and the fact Simpson/Buchner get those calls but he doesn’t

The last place I want Milroe throwing is short over the middle on a quick decision

I don't know if anyone else caught it, but at the beginning of the USF game, Saban was asked why he changed things up at QB. He very plainly answered that the QB change should help us use more of the playbook. So basically, according to Saban, we can't run the full playbook with Jalen.

I mean... what play would you run that's certain to get 10 yards with Milroe? I can think of a few with BY, Tua, Mac, McCarron, etc. but none with Milroe. Everything is a hit-or-miss and it's really difficult on a play-caller to predict what will work vs. not work

Do you really clearly remember McCarron of 2011?

I think people are holding Milroe to the standard of Tua, Mac and Bryce. And that isn't fair.

Now McCarron 2011 is fair. Go back and watch those games.

Just like McCarron was developing as a qb in 2011, that is what Milroe is going through. McCarron missed many deep throws, had a whole hellava lot of three and outs, red zone issues and a lower QB rating.

I remember him well. I have a vivid recollection of him getting the best of a generational defense for LSU on his way to a national title.

Why can’t Milroe throw the ball out of bounds instead of taking a sack? It’s very poor coaching.

I thought the play calls for Jalen Milroe was to his strengths.

By the way...Jalen Milroe is improving a little bit. He didn't stare as much this game so hopefully that trend continues. Keep improving and keep developing.

We cannot win a championship with a 2005 big ten style offense in 2023

While I normally agree that passing and having a balanced offense wins a national championship BUT there are a lot of teams with serious flaws.

I honestly think it’s POSSIBLE to win a Championship with a great run game and defense this year.

Rees? Is that really you? Soliciting advice from the forum cause you can't figure out how to run rpo, slants, and get the ball out quicker? Here's a tip: on obvious heavy blitz, give your QB a hot route or screen.

That is peewee football stuff.

Should have learned that years ago.

What you're seeing IS the offense.

Obviously, there are slight variations and maybe a few wrinkles that come and go on an opponent-by-opponent basis, but we're not waiting to unveil some grand hidden component of our offense that's going to make it look noticeably different. I get the appeal (and it kind of feels intuitive) of thinking that a staff is holding something back schematically, but it just doesn't work that way. We'll shut something down if the game is well in hand or if something is entirely not working (or we think it's not going to work), but not because we're waiting to unleash our true power for future foes or whatever.

Exactly this style of offense will not be able to compete against a high powered offense on the opposing side. Even Georgia had to go spread to beat Ohio State last year.

That game gives me goosebumps to this day. It was a masterpiece.

On Mccarron, he was brilliant in that game. Methodically picked apart one of the best defenses the game has ever seen.

That’s correct that’s our base offense.

We will add a wrinkle or two per game per week. But that’s it.

If we make a few big plays next week we will be fine.

If AM takes a lead we might be screwed.

Also, this is supposed to be the Saban offense, not Tommy’s.

Bingo. It is Saban’s offense.

wouldn’t mind. Milroe has a cannon. This offensive scheme is holding everyone back not just Jalen

Have you not noticed what Milroe does when his first read is not wide open?
Lololol! Now imagine forcing him to do that 40 times a game? LMAO!

Complain to Coach Saban because it’s his offense.
LOLOL at you guys who blame coordinators as if Saban has 0 input.
It’s very simple. It’s the Jimmies and the Joes.
