I think all this means is that Bateman won the job and he wants to keep Hurts' redshirt opportunity available. I don't think Barnett is truly in the race or is even our 2nd option if Bateman goes down for an extended period of time.

I forget how Cecil worded it but he basically said it would be hard to keep Hurts off the field this season. I don't think he specifically mentioned the USC game, though I may be wrong.

That he basically what he said on the radio. I think everybody feels he has the talent.

This is what I think. I do not feel they believe Hurts has complete grasp yet. That if Bateman can do it and Barnett only needs to be a backup. Save RS for Hurts

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet(as of page 3) but damn at the WR/TE stack...Stewart, Foster, Ridley, and Howard!

I think we'll be okay with Bateman. I'm concerned with his arm strength as often as Kiffin likes to stretch the field with these WR's, but I think he'll be fine on the intermediate throws.

I heard something about him being limited right now. Any truth to that?

To address the OP: Saban said the two guys he's getting ready to play are Bateman and Barnett - he didn't say start. By play, he means as the #2 back-up. Hurts already has starting job. Hmm??

Nah, JK. Whoever Saban picks is fine by me. My guess his he knows a little bit more about football than me.

Barring a bunch of injuries, I think that our defense will be so nasty, we will be fine with someone like Bateman if that's how it turns out.

With our defense, Justine Bateman will probably be sufficient.

What in the actual frick do you mean shite his pants 2 years in a row. He was freshman last year and didn't event play. This year he hasn't played in a game yet either.

Just becuase you predicted wrong isn't a reason to shite on him. He was highly ranked QB out of HS, Obviously he has skills or he wouldn't be at Bama in the first place. Coach Saban and Kiffin know what they're doing.

How is he wrong? Not a single snap has been taken. Let's let it play out.

Lane Kiffin's face when Nick Saban told him his 2 young stallions (Hurts & Barnett) would be riding the pine this season in favor of Cooper Bateman....

I'm good with the decision. Since 2008, only once have we only won a measely 10 games, once a measely 11 games and the rest were 12 wins or better. I think they hyperbole and the fact that this off season has been one of the longest I can remember in awhile, despite coming off a NC.. has contributed to the nervous nellies around the message boards.

I'm excited about Saturday and expect a prepared and hardened Bama team. Same as every year.

I have it on good authority with almost 100 percent certainty that all 3 will play...

...in a game...

...at some point in the future.

Interesting stuff. Ross Piersbacher is back to RG and Bozeman at C.

Just a thought, but I wonder if Bozeman was Saban's guy at center all along, and Piersbacher had been getting most of the reps to provide a quality backup.

Bingo. Saban isn't going to burn his redshirt until he has to or Hurts truly takes command.
