Again Hurts might be the most talented but Saban, like most coaches, probably doesn't feel that a true frosh QB is ready.

I was just having this conversation with a coworker. Basically my opinion is that Saban definitely wasn't going to start a true freshman that isn't even a "typical" Saban QB.

I know people will say we did fine with Blake Sims as the QB and he didn't have a good grasp of the playbook so we simplified it.. I think the reason for that is it was kind of what we had to do and Blake was going to be a one year starter no matter what so we just did what we had to do for him to be successful. I don't think Saban wants to run a simplified offense for a true freshman. I think he'd rather have Hurts RS or at least only come in for certain packages and let him develop and learn the offense better. Remember that Saban's process is long term and isn't necessarily all about winning the first game of the season.

If Blake had 8 turnovers in 2 scrimmages fine. If Bateman goes out in the first three games and has a bunch turnovers and Blake has few/none, I'd kind of like to know that. I don't want to just move forward with Bateman no questions asked just because he performs better in scrimmages/practice.
What?

Pure conjecture.

The bottom line is that the coaches know about the situation better than anyone else.

Pretty much this is all that needs to be said.

Saban utterly abhors losing. He isn't going to sacrifice what he thinks is his best chance to win in the name of rewarding seniority, simple as that. If he says Bateman's the guy, then for whatever his reason, it is because he thinks that's the best guy to win the next game.

Of course, nobody's trotted onto the field yet, so it could also be a troll job.......

Oh how I do miss the annual Rustling of the Jimmies from the old Woolly days. And also the Woolly awards, yep, miss them too.

I don't care if Barnett throws 100 interceptions in scrimmages and practices if he performs better in actual games than any of the other quarterbacks.

How would we know that he has never played? Only in 2 scrimmages with 8 fricking picks lol.

Of course. The odds of this occurring don't seem very high, though. Dude has shite his pants 2 years in a row, but let's see how he does in Dallas.

I know Saban and company don't give half a shite what people think. And this might not even be their fault, could just be the media. But it would look REALLY bad if Bateman and Barnett go out there Saturday and against Ole Miss and suck arse.

I think in the Sims/Coker QB battle Saban didn't think we had a QB who could run our offense. So he simplified the playbook and played Sims because he believed it gave us the best chance to be successful. In this situation Saban apparently thinks Bateman or Barnett playing (at least in the USC game) gives us the best chance to be successful. We could simplify the offense 2014 style and start Hurts. Obviously, Saban doesn't think that give us the best chance to be successful.

How has he shite his pants 2 years in a row? He was redshirted last year and has only ever played in scrimmages.

Has Saban ever done anything like this in the past? There's no reason to think he started this year.

I know a lot of folks wanted to see #2 out there to start. That's not happening. Saban made it sound like he wouldn't even play in week 1.
