The Umphrey's and Widespread Panic concert was sold out and apparently a really energized show. Not a big Panic fan, I've always enjoyed Umphrey's.

I really wish we could get My Morning Jacket and Sound Tribe back up here. They came back in 2011 for the tornado relief, but those are really two of my favorite live bands and to see them up here again would be fricking awesome.

I have heard good things about Heritage House. There are already two of those in the Tuscaloosa area. I think they are known for their baked goods and pastries more than coffee. I need to check it out one day.

I saw where that O'Henry's is going downtown. It looks to be massive with a nice size patio. It will be between the two Lurleen Wallace's.

Downtown wasn't a blimp on the radar when I was a student. We only found ourselves down there, if we were going 4th and 23rd to listen to Trotline play. Or occasionally rhythm and brews. It's night and day now.

It's changed a lot since I graduated in 2010, but we spent a ton of time at Wilhagans. We pretty much either went there or the Houndstooth.

That's what my brother said when he went here. Not the case when I'm here. It's hard to find a parking spot downtown on Thursday and Friday. There's a lot of good local bands that will play too.

When did you graduate? 06? Downtown was a pretty popular area when I was there in the 90's, so I find it hard to believe it wasn't after I graduated in 98. The original location of Innisfree on Greensboro was always packed, 4th & 23rd was always packed, Copper Top was always packed. At least on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. And that's not even mentioning The Chukker.

No doubt, but it certainly wasn't a ghost town, unless you go back to the 80's and early 90's when the only places down there were The Downtown Pub and The Old Train Station. I think Innisfree opened in 96, and 4th & 23rd opened in 97 or 98.

This has more to do with UA than Tuscaloosa, but the Tutwiler is going to be demolished and rebuilt. Believe I also read that UA is either buying or building something downtown also.

Here are the details for Tutwiler.

quote:

Preliminary plans for a $124 million replacement for Tutwiler Residential Hall were approved on Friday by The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.

The building is scheduled to open in 2020, with the demolition of the ?current Tutwiler Hall to follow.

The new building, to be located near the current site, would be 520,521 square feet. With a capacity of around 1,583 students, it would be able to house nearly 600 more students than the current one.

Similar to the current building, the new residence hall will have double occupancy rooms with community bathrooms, lounges, study areas, seven elevators, a Julia’s Market and a multipurpose space that can serve as a storm shelter for 1,742 people, according to Tuscaloosa News.

UA President Stuart Bell said this new hall will help meet the demand for housing on the south side of campus. The all-girl dormitory is often requested due to its proximity to the houses of sororities of which many Tutwiler residents are members.

The University has plans in place to create a parking deck for this new dorm, as well as to build a new dorm near Lakeside Dining.

Just checked on Allied Reality's page and found some pretty exciting development news for downtown.

The first exciting news is that over on 4th and 22nd, a brick and glass building is going to be built with around 8000 feet of retail. It won't help the parking issues near Temerson Square, but I like it. This has been approved and will break ground in a month. Here's the proposal:

Another is Elements, going on Lurleen BLVD S. I can't remember what it used to be, but the land has been vacant for a while now from what I can remember. This will break ground in 2017.

Bham related, but TopGolf is coming to Bham finally.

Also, I believe the city has things going with a BJCC stadium.
