I don't think Saban needs to go. I think he needs to give us back that two million raise. I think he needs to realize his weaknesses in offense and get somebody in who knows what he is doing and let him do it.

Now he and his wife don't feel like they are sufficiently appreciated. Way to go.

Arent we overreacting just a bit....now hear me out. Here is where Nuss failed yesterday. No screen passes, max protect packages and/or 3 step drop passes to counter the Sooners pass rush. We did nothing to take the pressure off the OLine. I do agree that Nuss cost us the game vs TAMU last year but we one the title anyway so Im not gonna kill him too much over that. Maybe this is a learning experience for him. Maybe he takes this off season and becomes a better play caller.

Then there are the receivers. I watch other teams and when the play breaks down, you see receivers breaking to daylight. Alabama receivers become spectators when AJ was flushed out of the pocket. Is this not coached at Alabama? (The exception was Norwood when the was in the game.)

This has been a problem ever since Saban arrived.
In addition, the design of the passing routes have been simplistic, even with McElwain. I used to get mad at how unimaginative the route concepts were. Now, it's just a sad joke. Designing drag routes on third down that consistently call for receivers to run short of the first down marker is abysmal (some of this is on the receivers, but in that case it reverts back to coaching). Designing routes that run receivers in the same area has been a boon to opposing defenses. It effectively allows one defender the ability to cover two receivers simultaneously- happened again last night. Even with all of these things, the worst part about the passing game this season was not utilizing Howard. What a waste. But by God, we're going to flex the sprint champion Vogler outside consistently when we go 4-wide.

At this point, might as well bring back Applewhite as a consultant for the passing game to get a refresher on the "uno".

Our play calling on offense has been suspect since Saban has been here. You could easily find threads complaining about JM when he was our OC. Yet before he came to UA his offense at Fresno St was going over 400+ yds a game.

Our play calling is based on what we have. Saban and Nuss knows the limitations of AJ. AJ may be a great game manager but his weaknesses got exposed this season by a bad oline(inconsistent) and not having a power run game. They were masked the past 2 years because those 2 were top shelf. AJ does not have the arm or consistency to hit mid to long range passes. I do not care about stats because I have seen the games. He gets credit for Henry's 63 yd TD last night but Henry caught the ball behind the line and made that himself. Just like the 99yd pass TD against AU. The ball was under thrown and Cooper like many of our WRs have to adjust because of bad throws. Yes they have dropped a few themselves, but until we get a QB that can consistently hit mid to long range routes and actually hit a WR consistently in stride, I do not care who our OC is the plays will remain the same.

I could live with this. Could you imagine how many points he would have us score with all of the talent that we have?

Jesus christ people are actually calling for Lane Kiffin to be a part of the staff at Bama? The melt is strong, apparently. To the point of the OP, it would be nice to have an actual philosophy on offense.

I'm calling for anybody but Nuss. That was the most pathetic offensive gameplan I've ever seen.

Lots of people woke up on the dumb side of the bed this morning. Our receivers have ran routes in the same areas at times. The two best examples were the INT Maze threw against LSU and the INT AJ threw against ATM. Reid would have not been in the vicinity had Brandon Gipson not ran the wrong route. And its plain to see that Kenny Bell also ran the wrong route against ATM. With so many of our Route packages being read routes that goes back to the players executing. How is that the play calling if the receivers plainly ran the wrong route?

How about this: OU is built to stop the pass. They are a Big12 defense who is used to going up against pass heavy offenses. They are not built to stop a power running game. What do we do? Balance for no reason. We let Derrick Henry have 8 carries for 100 yards. Let me say that again. 8 carries. Henry was stuffed one time. He had 12.5 yards per carry.

Now tell me again what a genius Nuss is.

And AJ also hit some deep passes as well. I think he had a set agenda in that game and it wasn't the same AJ we were used to seeing play calls be damned. He seem he was forcing the ball just to get to that 3100 yard mark.

Its funny that Nuss threw the ball way to much but McElwain ran the ball way to much. What we really mean is we don't care for the run/pass balance at all when we win, we just need to have something to bitch about when we don't. Am I close?

It's called taking what the defense gives you. You may have heard of that philosophy before. The defense couldn't stop Henry. We stopped him for them.

As far as AJ goes, it was clear that he was rattled early and forcing things. A good offensive coordinator would have called more runs to set up the play action pass. Instead we didn't make them believe that we were going to run the ball. Thus the passes seemed forced. Alabama football isn't built around all this cute stuff. We are a power running team with play action mixed in. We are not an air raid team. If Nuss doesn't understand that, maybe he should go elsewhere.

And had we started the running the ball while we were down against ATM you would have been perfectly happy right? Now I have heard everything, we get down early and our fanbase wants us to go back to power like we were up by a few TD's? From a raw yardage standpoint we had one of our more productive days against a BCS conference opponent. We lost by two touchdowns because of 5 turnovers which led to 28 of Oklahoma's points. If we execute the gameplan we had in that game without the uncharacteristic turnovers we win that game 52-17 easily. And of those 5 turnovers, only two were interceptions.

The team was sloppy and we turned the ball over that is football. It actually wasn't the offensive game plan. We did not execute. AJ held on to the ball at times trying to force passes which led to a season high 7 sacks. And when he forced two throws he threw two picks.

No team is going to win when they are -4 in turnovers. Since the start of the 2008 season, we are undefeated when we win the turnover battle and we were were only even in one of our losses.

It is simple since Saban has hired McElwain and Nussmeier when we go out as a team and execute better offensively defensively and on special teams better than the other team we win. But it all comes down to execution.

Take what the defense gives you. How hard is that to understand? If AJ started forcing passes and throwing picks in the ATM game, then maybe we should have ran. But that was not the story of that game. ATM did not have a defense that could stop what we wanted to do this year.

OU had a decent passing defense because they are used to defending the pass. frickin UTx ran for 255 yards on OU this year. Do you think UTx has a Derrick Henry in the backfield? No. Yet that is how they had success against OU.

OU was bringing the blitz. Where was the screen pass? Nuss did nothing to help our craptastic oline. He just watched AJ get killed and refused to put us in maximum protection or screen passing them to death. Nuss made no adjustments to their defense.

Remember all of the hype surrounding our offense before the season? Our GOAT WRs? What if I had told you then that we would finish 85 in the country in red zone offense?
