He's not restricted from going to Georgia if he sits out a year. He can go wherever he chooses, but he can't play right away at some places.

There are restrictions on eligibility, gpa/coursework requirements, and scholarship numbers (among several other things when it comes to playing ball in the SEC). Restrictions are a part of life.

If he wanted to transfer so badly, he should have departed earlier. Following Kirby and Mel Tucker to Georgia is a joke.

I have always thought this is the best way to go. If they don't want to be here, let them go. No need for the negative pub this can bring. At the very least he should have been consistant with other players he has given the SEC waiver to and at least it would en be across the board. It's a bad optic to let others do it and one not and I fully get the idea why with KS being the coach at Georgia I just don't think it's worth the hassle.

Article with even more detail (From the player's side).

Letter: Letter: Maurice Smith felt ‘ostracized’ by Alabama

quote:

When Maurice Smith informed Alabama of his intention to transfer, his locker was cleaned out, personal belongings thrown in the trash, he was banned from using the athletic facility, and he generally felt “ostracized.”

If true that's a black eye on the programs mostly stellar reputation.

I don't believe for a second it went down that way. He and his family seem to be turning to the media to force Alabama's hand.

Yep. I dont buy most of that sob story. Also, just go to georgia if you want to, but you have to sit. Nobody is stopping him

He should be able to transfer wherever he wants. Bama doesn't own him. His story is a disgrace to the university and will remain so unless it is proven false.

There is a legal contract in place between them though. Welcome to adulthood.

Exactly, he knew the conditions when he signed. We can't always get what we want. Some people have a difficult time grasping that concept.

Kid is doing his best to turn up the heat to force a release. Too bad. You tell your coach you quit, you should clean out your locker THAT SAME DAY.

Actually Mo, and the rest of us, can get whatever. The process of getting what we want is the issue, Mo and the majority just want to take the easy path.

Al.com has done a series of articles on this stuff. It was Smith's mother that started it by emailing Saban and questioning why he wasn't playing. That was in November.

quote:

Working around football, Smith's mother has seen players at various schools become scholarship limit casualties and have their scholarships pulled. She says she was concerned that could happen to Maurice, who had gone from the favorite to win the Tide's nickel back job entering fall camp last year to playing strictly on special teams.

So she sent an email to Saban. In it, she expressed an interest in talking either in person or on the phone to talk about post-graduation plans since Maurice was originally on pace to graduate in May.

To be clear, Maurice wasn't even thinking about transferring at that point and didn't even know that his mother had sent that email.

But somehow they're trying to lay all the blame on Saban. I mean, you're essentially accusing Saban of not doing his job properly. How'd you think he was going to react?

I guess it also explains why he's hell bent on transferring, even when he's essentially a starter now. Something he's not guaranteed anywhere else.

This is such a hatchet job on CNS. I usually side with the kids, but Mo is going through the media to get what he wants.
One, it's not gonna happen
Two, and more importantly, on Sept 3rd, Mo and his story won't be a story.

Lastly, CNS (he wont), but needs to remember what Finebaum has said about his program. On ESPN all this week, he has ripped the program, bringing up Cams stuff. As well as the UGA kid we took (domestic violence deal).

Hes on ESPN now so he does the show that they want him to do. Thats how that game works. When he was on radio he had the audience and most of the power. On ESPN he doesnt have that power anymore. He doesnt get to decide all of the stories he talks about and all the angles its covered from. ESPN isnt about just covering stories, its about entertainment and drama sells.

Ok I will give u that. Talk about mo and cam, but do you really need to bring up the UGA DV kid (I forgot his name )

Also it was last week.

I understand drama sells, but Paul went way back to bring that one up for no reason.

Edit, I don't care what he says on his show, I don't watch, but when he is on ESPN, it just rubbed me the wrong way

When has Paul Finebaum not been a drama queen? ESPN may be calling the shots, but Finebaum has been stirring the shite for a couple of decades. That's just what he does.
