He has not been granted a transfer yet.

Georgia, Maryland, Miami and USC are trying to get Smith. Would suck to have to play against him in game one.

Why does he need to get a transfer when he's a graduate?

For either a grad transfer waiver or grad transfer exception, the previous school has to state it has no objection to the transfer

Alabama may not have wanted senior defensive back Maurice Smith to transfer after all.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Smith has been ‘unsuccessful getting a release despite several attempts during the last month.’

Smith appeared in 24 games over the last three seasons with Alabama and is scheduled to graduate from the school in August. According to the AL.com story, Georgia, Miami, Maryland, Louisville and USC have all expressed adding Smith via transfer.

The senior defensive back has been attempting to gain his release since mid-June. Smith’s intentions to transfer were first announced June 18.

For his career, Smith has accumulated 38 tackles, five passes defended, 1.5 sacks and two tackles-for-loss

If he doesn't want to be at Bama, let him go elsewhere.

From what Saban said, we likely won't see him in the SEC.

He won't be released to play in the SEC. Probably ends up at Miami. Read it on bamamag so tifwiw.

Charlie from Bol still thinks it's a chance Maurice Smith stays.

He said the chances of him leaving is still greater but it's more of a "no news is good news" type deal.

He would be our starting nickel back right? And we are in nickel like 80% of the time these days...why not stay and finish out your career as a starter with your teammates? Seems like a silly decision to leave....hope he stays.

Yep, that would allow Fitzpatrick to stay on the outside.

No he isn't. Anthony Averrett is looking to be the starter opposite of Hump. This will leave Fitz in the center of the field at nickel. Smith is wanting to leave because of what I just wrote. Eddie at FS and Ronnie at SS. Leaving Nickel to Fitz and Dime to maybe Smith but he has to stay.
