Doesn't hurt to have the experience of Mo Smith, but yeah people are sleeping on Double A.
Game has finally slowed down for him, which lets him take advantage of his size and track speed.
Averett has had a bit of the injury bug at Bama too, all the more reason to have more bodies back there...

great nickname. can we call the DBs the four horseman?
but yeah ive been a big fan of AA since he came on campus. great great athlete. i think he's much more athletic than Mo Smith. If he gets PT i'd expect teams to try to throw towards him and I could see him having a Marquis Johnson type of year. He's got a long stride and the way he runs reminds me a bit of Drake

Nope. Averrett is not looking to be the starter. Sheffield got consistent reps over him in spring.

Been trying to get to stick
AA and Smith got a lot of praise coming out of spring, Mo is just stuck behind other good players at nickel and safety.
Frustrating spot to be in...

I thought Sheffield was playing more nickel and safety and Double A was playing the outside spots

No. All spring articles have stated that Fitzpatrick plays outside in base defense (4 DBs) and plays star in 5 and 6 DB formations with Sheffield playing outside corner opposite to Humphrey. Brown is the starting money spot now that Harrison is the starting FS. Tony Brown and Hooties Jones are in a battle for the money spot.

Not consistent with what I am hearing. Averrett to take spot opposite of Hump. Highly unlikely they would play Fitz as a DB wide and then move him to Nickel or Dime with a formation change and stick a new CB wide. Fitz to stay at Nickel, Safeties are Eddie and Harrison. With the only spot up for grabs dime. Lot's of competition left but that's what I am hearing as of today.

Fitz is an animal inside, the only way he would move outside is if AA or Sheff can't handle their business out there. Hope one of them can.

A fall camp preview article I read this morning said that while Sheffield is in the mix, Averett is the current leader for the 3rd cornerback job...and that Fitz would likely move to the slot in nickel and dime packages...

Correct and like i said above. AA is looking to be the guy across from Hump on the outside. Fitz stays at Nickel. Eddie and Harrison Safety and Dime is anyone's at this point Tony Brown seems to be the favorite, maybe smith if he hangs around. We have like 6 people competing for that spot.

Averrett is struggling in coverage. He is fast but I'll bet the house he doesn't see anything other than ST

I've watched him, he has made leaps and bounds. He keeps going he will start. If he has any major setbacks it will change it all. He is extremely coach-able where Sheffield ins't. Main reason he is taking a seat at CB.

Full of shite? really. You people are unbelievable. Just passing on some of the bitching of the staff and now I'm full of shite. Sheffield has an attitude, they don't like it. Period.

It could be a situation where Kendall was simply frustrated (I certainly hope that is the case). Here is an AL.com article covering Kendall Sheffield. They actually spoke with his father who was quoted as saying the following. The 1st quote is regarding a conversation Kendall's dad had with the new DB coach D. Ansley.
The 2nd quote is more analysis from Kendall's dad, but based on what he is saying you can see some potential spots for frustration coming from the kid's end. Pops seems to be saying its on Kendall to work at his craft.
Former 5-star recruit Kendall Sheffield 'a lot more comfortable' entering Year 2 at Alabama
Hopefully the growth in the system will allow for Kendall to mesh better with the coaching he is receiving. Also, hopefully Ansley can connect with him.
quote:
"He said Kendall's doing well," Sheffield said. "He said he's picking up the playbook more, that his technique is getting better, that he's more comfortable and that he just needs to keep improving and keep fighting because there's a lot of guys up there, but we knew that going up there."

quote:
"He's had to get much better with his technique," Cecil Sheffield said. "And the press coverages? We didn't press in high school. Kendall's learning all of that now at Alabama. So that kind of put him behind someone like (fellow class of 2015 five-star cornerback) Minkah Fitzpatrick. Minkah's dad said Minkah already had a lot of experience with that stuff and with the press coverages. Kendall didn't. None. Kendall was just athletic in high school. So you could just say, 'Kendall, go cover that receiver over there.' And he could do it easily in high school. In college, you have receivers running 4.3s and 4.4s. If you miss a beat, you're beat. So it's more about technique in college. He still has a long way to go — just me personally as a dad — but he's a lot more comfortable."

Where's Deionte Thompson nowadays? I had high hopes for him.
Posted on 8/3/16 at 12:33 pm to JuiceTerry
Thompson should be the first safety off the bench, between him and Hootie Jones.

No one should restrict where players can go.
