This post by this idiot actually makes me proud that, when I graduated from USA, I beat out kids from UTexas, UA, AU, GT and a bunch of other schools for a job at Chevron. I met and talked with all of the candidates and every one of them to a man and woman had this exact same attitude. They were convinced that their superior schooling and fraternity connections along with their young age would trump my 40 year old arse that went back to school late in life. Not a chance in hell I was losing a job to any of those douchebags and I didn't.
Good for you!

Someone suggested this on another forum, and I actually don't think it is a terrible idea. If you raise the ticket prices, wouldn't students have more incentive to stay since it cost them more, and wouldn't it prevent students who don't really care from buying tickets? Nothing substantial, but maybe to like $25-30 a ticket.

ACT cards have RFID tags in them.. Thats why you can "swipe" against certain readers on doors at night to get into your college's buildings.
Install a readier above the gates in the student section, if the card is in thier pocket, purse, whatever, it gets read that you went out the gate..

Not a bad idea and wouldn't take but a second to do.
Basically, it would be like leaving the Metro in DC.

Some, but most dont pay with their own money. At least not for several years(loan payback)
How does the block allocation work? how do certain groups get in the block? do all groups get in the block, but certain qualifications get you better seating?

I had forgotten about the part where students often aren't actually paying for the tickets, so you are probably right.
You need to meet certain GPA and community service requirements and I assume have a minimum amount of members to qualify. Any organization can do it though.

While I applaud them for having a gpa and CS requirement, I would not use those as the determining factor.
It should be participation is university activities. sporting and non.
They should also have a section for students not involved in groups. How big is yalls rotc? they should be front and center as well

Where they sit is based on GPA and CS as far as I know, but I'm really not 100% certain on that part. I know the ROTC has a section, but it isn't as big as what you see at other schools.

As a former greek at UA who benefited from block seating I'm completely in favor of getting rid of it.
Greeks should not be entitled to any seats/sections in BDS. First come, first serve, and those are usually the ones who are the loudest and stay late. Just because you pay dues doesn't mean you have the right to a seat.

I dont understand why people want to sit in the endzone. They are the worst seats in the student section.
Posted on 10/23/13 at 3:19 pm to TreyAnastasio
Some people want to be sectioned off from the rest of the student section.

There's clearly a problem, but I'm not sure eliminating block seating is the answer. To me that's an over-reaction that could have unintended consequences. If we're worried about some students leaving early, if you eliminate the block seating you'll see that a lot of them just won't go at all to some of these non-competitive games and that certainly won't fix the problem. And it's not just the Greeks that leave early, not really sure how eliminating block seating solves any "leaving early" problems.
ETA: I've been out of school for a few years so I have no real dog in the fight in the Greek block seating debate.

There's a very easy way to get around that. Just leave your ACT card with your friends in the stand.

You can always have people at the gate to make sure only one person is swiping one card.

Well put them in the upper deck then. As far away from the others as possible.

Well Saban just called out the fans for leaving early on his presser.

Schools with traditionally good fan bases are having the same problems we are having and it has nothing to do with block seating.

I was a greek at UA and think block seating should be eliminated. It creates a "us vs. them" mentality. It separates the student body. No one thinks it's a good idea but for Greeks, and they only make up about a quarter of the student body. I really don't think block seating makes that much money for the school either. It's just another backwards arse thing the Capstone does and keeps doing. Our school is very large now. It's just not feasible to have block seating. It's 2013. Our school is getting more and more out of state with each passing year too. I understand a lot of these students come for Greek life. I doubt they come because of block seating though. The school is getting too culturally diverse for this stuff.
