I understand. I wanted to watch those other games too. But as CNS said, our team is out there playing their tails off for 4 quarters. I'm a little embarrassed to think what they must think when they look up and see so many empty seats. After all, they have delivered 3 of the last 4 and current #1 ranking. I don't think sticking around for 4 quarters is too much to ask.

The fact is that our fans are spoiled. Most programs would be so excited to have the #1 team that every home game would be like Mardi Gras. For us, it's just another Saturday.

Which is why I understand how older fans can get angry with the current crop of students so much some times. They have lived through the terrible season. The worst season I have had to endure as a student we lost 3 games.

I always try to make the point to my friends who leave early is that you are getting the opportunity to watch one of the greatest runs of success in college football history.

I think the one thing that gets overlooked in alot of this is that we have a ton of out of state students. The most recent group of freshman it was over half. A lot of the out of state people didn't grow up as fans.

I just can't stand the block seating argument when schools like LSU are struggling to keep the student section against Florida full and they don't have block seating. Just like UGA who is having some student attendance issues.

It turns the debate at Alabama into a greek/non-greek argument when it should just be an overall discussion on the issue itself.

I know that other non SEC schools like OU are having these problems as well. It's just that people are not wanting to stay a full game when they can watch it on HDTV's for free. I have to stay the whole game, obviously, and I did notice that all of the student section, not just block seating cleared out fast by the 3rd quater. Our home games this year just suck, (except for OM). Also I kinda wish they would've gotten rid of block seating for more than one game, and for a bigger game as well, just to see what happens.

I have to put some of the blame on whoever males the schedules. No one wants to see us play terrible teams, especially if it's a 6:00 kickoff.

I have to disagree.

There were pictures taken of the stadium at the start of the 4th quarter. They were shown on BOL. Oddly enough the thread was deleted. While the student section was empty, so was the rest of the freaking stadium. The Greeks had already cleared out at halftime and I don't blame them. The score was 28-0 on a Saturday night in a college town. The game was boring from the mid-third quarter onward when the 2nd and 3rd stringers took the field.

If there is a blowout for a late night game, I'm leaving early, whether I am a student or a season ticket holder. Unless its a revenge game, or iron bowl etc...

I would rather make that long drive home earlier or get a head start at the bar

Only way to stop it is to eliminate blow outs and fortunately Bama is real good at those. If you noticed very few if any left before a few minutes to go in the Ole Miss game because the game was close. My son and I left a couple minutes into the 4th quarter Saturday to try and get home before midnight. I hope that meets with your approval?

BTW making students swipe out of the game is idiotic. This is a free country and making someone stand in line to leave an event is dumb.

It's a problem everywhere. Not just Alabama.

I'm in grad school at State now and they have been complaining about the same thing over on their board. And they have actually had some close games (Bowling Green - up by 1 in the 4th).

Meh. I contemplated taking a few pictures of the stadium because I knew this thread would probably pop up again some times.

Here are the 2 fixes that would do much more than the idiotic idea of eliminating block seating doing anything.

1. Penalties based on when you leave the game. We have penalties if you don't go to the game. Why not apply this to people leaving early if it such a huge issue.

2. Sell alcohol in the stadium. No one is leaving the game early to go home and play video games. People are leaving the game to either go back to the Quad or to a bar to watch the rest of the game.

Saturday night you had a top 5 matchup starting after our game, plus LSU was on the ropes. Some people would rather go somewhere and watch these games then watch our 2nd and 3rd stringers run the ball the 30 straight times.

Do people really think selling alcohol would keep people there? First off, that will never happen. It's not up to the school to decide. Second, what student is going to stick around for the full game because they can buy $8 beers that would be cut off at the start of the 4th quarter anyway?

Are you saying our fans aren't spoiled by the success we've had the last 5 years? That was my point after all.

Its natural to get a little spoiled with a lot of success, and I think that it shows the most with people bashing our players and team because our new Oline struggles in a 35-10 win over a top 20 team. We pack a 101,000 seat stadium in little Tuscaloosa every saturday, and just because people leave a 52-0 game early...that isnt why we are "spoiled".

eta: and screw you for not laughing at my joke! A hole!

I'm sorry, but I want them to keep block seating.

They pay 2-4k a semester for dues, and that's a benefit they get with it. Who cares if they leave in the middle of the 3rd? Heck, I tried to stay the whole game against Arkansas, and I couldn't even do it.

I loved block seating as a student, and was a perk for my sophomore through junior years. Freshman year, I spent 80% of the season in the concession line, running drinks for actives. It's a price you have to pay.

Also, it's BY FAR the best representation of our school when they do fan shots of the student section. I want our University represented by well-dressed young men in button-downs and polos accompanied by southern belles in sun dresses--NOT a bunch of overweight fools that paint their chest and dress up like some superhero.

Every time we are on TV its a representation of our University as a whole. I'd rather have those that fill the block seating shown than the alternative.

I'm sorry, but other schools leave at the same time they do when up by such a score. It's not an indictment on anyone.

I think its also the fact that you are only filling up 3/4 of your student section even for the big games, not just leaving early.

Maybe the student section is too big. But you have 4k+ not showing up for big games, even. I am sure the Alumni/season tickets holders would rather have those
