We seem to be getting off on a lot of side bars in many threads. I was thinking we could have a collective thread on Qbs or something of that nature.

As of today 23 August, 2016 I have actually heard from one source Hurts is the guy. The other articles and what not I can't confirm. Don't get crazy or anything this could change hourly like I've mentioned before but that's the latest I know.

It might just be me, but you never want to start a true freshman QB in the SEC.

Trustworthiness of said source?

BTW, thanks for all of your updates Boz. They're appreciated.

Even if he isn't the starter, you know there are going to be some packages with him this season.

Source has been pretty good, but the way in which they explained said statement made me believe it more. I am waiting to hear more. I am one of those that doesn't like to say stuff until it's confirmed but i'll play it by ear.

It has certainly not been Sabans MO to start a younger talent over a more experienced player. I'm sure Hurts is as talented as all the reports say but playing in the game is a different speed. They will bait him into some bad throws it is part of the growing process.

I posted this in the fall camp thread, but Kinglaw (Reuben's uncle) said he has been hearing about Hurts from some of the players for a while now.

He hasn't heard anything definitive as far as the kid being named the starter, but it wouldnt surprise him if he was.

They said he is a bad man and fast as hell. If a play breaks down he is running and NOBODY can catch him. TIFWIW.

Is Hurts legend going to turn into the Bill Brasky SNL sketch?

We'll see....don't doubt Boz's info but Saban's M.O. has always been going with the guy who can run the offense without turning it over. Turnovers will kill you. Heard Saban directly discuss it once: He said most football stats. are meaningless except one and that is the NFL's turnover margin.

If the freshman is the best you got you start him.
It sounds like JH does not have a problem with pressure. We will know more soon.

We gotta start coming up with stuff to troll people with. I like "The truth Hurts" and "Hurts don't it?"

I think the thing there is that Bateman has been just as turnover prone (if not more) than Hurts has, and Barnett even more so.

So, if the true freshman takes care of the ball as well or better than the upperclassman.........

Not to mention that freshman has a set of wheels that will give Kiffin an entirely new dimension with the offense and the dude is built like a linebacker.

This is key to me, aside from the obvious talent differences between Bateman and hurts. They turn the ball over the exact same.

On the first throw Bateman had to Stewart last Saturday, "the one that was under thrown" had the CB not tripped it's an interception all day long in any league in CFB. He had a really nasty interception as well.

Hurts had two picks but let me clear up one of them. It was a 2 min drill like the game is over when the clock hits 0. It was the last pass, on the last second, Hail Mary to the end zone. I don't really think that's a normal situation.

His only real pick was a pass across his body rolling to the right where the reliever was open but T Brown closed the distance and took it.

On that front him and Bateman are at least equal.

At this point the questions seems to be when, not if Hurts takes the keys from Bateman. I still believe Bateman starts against USC, if for no other reason than to keep Hurts calm and focused game week. He is after all, only 18 years old and USC has some of the best corners in the country.
