My whole thing is if Hurts is the best option and is going to be the guy eventually, give him the keys now. If he fricks up big time you can pull him, but it does him no good to sit idly by. Why take over at midseason? Two of the first three games are huge, if he's the best guy, despite his Freshman status, play him. That's big time experience right there. The last thing I want is to go into the Tennessee or LSU games with Hurts barely having any experience, if he's the guy by then.

Well if he fricks up big-time against USC, it could kill his confidence. If you bring him along slowly, giving him 2-3 series against USC and then progressively more, he can build confidence and be ready to lead the team by UT or sooner. Look at the way Tebow was managed with Chris Leak. Even the great Tebow needed to be brought along slowly as a TF. Saban won't throw him to the wolves, he will be brought along slowly until he is ready.

They turn the ball over the exact same.

One thing I would assume is they are going up against the 1's correct? I mean we are still probably the most talented D in college...us or maybe LSU...SoCal has some pretty good DB's...so that gives me some comfort.

Hey Boz- how is Ro. Foster progressing? Can we assume we will see him starting....and it sounds like Tony Brown is still looking good and should see the field by October

Yeah...USC and Ole Miss are huge and will be tough...luckily we have the D and the ground game to hopefully grind those out...

Reminds me of 2010 and the Sims/AJ battle...AJ really didn't lock down the starter position until the Penn State game which I believe was a couple of games in.....

Obviously not Boz and I have no insider info, but I wanted to comment on this.

The WR pecking order. At this point it starts with Ridley, but I wonder how it shapes up beyond that, including Howard? Stewart had the most catches other than Ridley last year, though didn't really come on until the back off. Foster was looking good early and is arguably the most talented. Dieter had a 1000 yard season for a different team a year ago, obviously he won't replicate that here (see Mullaney), but is he a solid #4? I'd think Howard could be no lower than 4th.

It's going to be interesting. I really liked the spread (from a statistical point of view) of FSU's top 4 guys in 2013, but we don't have Jameis Winston out there.

LINK

FSU stats for reference. Two WRs crossed 1000, another came close. Their TE had a respectable 557 yards and 7 TDs. It'd nice to see everyone show out and have a chance to make a name for themselves, but we probably have a top 5 instead of a top 4, I think it's more likely we see many guys floating between 550-800 than any 1000 yard catchers, and this is going off of the idea of us having at least a solid passing season.

I wanna say that PSU game was week 2. They both played in the opener vs Kent State, then we went on the road, AJ played most of the game and won the job.

Could both play in the opener? Yes, but USC is a talented team. They could be a 7 or 8 win team, but they could just as easily be an 11+ win team. Plus, they have two really good CBs IMO. It's probably not going to be easy throwing on them, but we have so much talent to throw to it helps. Unless we somehow blow their doors off early, I don't think they really share reps, but like others have said one could start and the other could come in based on a number of different factors.

I'm hoping the OL holds up. We've got decent experience and the best talent on the OL since 2012. And this feels like the first time in a long time that we have two legitimate "LT" types at OT. Jonah Williams may very well be the future at LT beyond C-Rob, a far cry from the years of DJ Fluker (who was a bad arse MF, but definitely more of an OG or RT) and Dom Jackson.

Not sure how we can say we have the ground game when the 2 main guys at RB have only seen limited action so far in their careers. Certainly the talent is there, and the OL should be solid, but Scarborough nor Harris have been asked to be THE guy yet. And after those two I assume it's true freshman Emmons?

I am assuming this is going to be Henry/Drake v2.0. The only thing is Bo has a history of injuries. Did Emmons qualify? I thought there was some chatter he had to get his grades up?

Some rumblings on BOL that Emmons may surpass Harris as the backup before the season is over. He's apparently been very impressive during camp.

No clue. I don't follow these things all that closely. I did read he's been impressive this fall camp so assumed he was available.

Probably, but both Henry and Drake had more game experience than Harris and Scarborough. Harris barely got on the field when Drake was hurt late in the year last year.

On the half hour SEC show focusing on Alabama they had a segment of Saban miked up. It showed him talking to Emmons about his running, so I'm going to assume he qualified.

So right now if we had say a 3 WR set with a slot it would be

Ridley, Stewart, Foster

But honestly the way we rotate WR's you will see those three and Dieter alot. Depends on the play calls etc. Ro Foster looked very good, very in shape.

I think that Foster is gonna have his #1 receiver spot back.

Is this because Hurts has been good or the other QBs just aren't?

That's the obvious question of course, but it's probably somewhere in the middle.

I think it's some of both. Barnett had his melt, Bateman is average and Hurts has all the tools in the kit and needs to prove he can play. Something like that.

This is the big question. There is a huge difference in picking the shiniest diamond or picking the shiniest turd.

Yeah it's crazy to think Ridley doesn't have the season he had if Foster doesn't get hurt last year. Foster looked really good up until his injury.
