Good freakin' Lord. Seems like every other governor since George Wallace was staring down the barrel of federal prison.

Abolish state govt, replace it with manager that oversees basic infrastructure and serves as amabassador. Let cities/counties handle things.

You're really going to let Madison, Jefferson, Mobile and "Munt-gum-ree" Counties manage themselves?

Depends on the sincerity of his supposed repentance during his latter years I'd say.

God's grace is definitely a factor, but most people with the capacity to commit the kinds of evil don't repent for the sin. They repent for the consequence of the sin and hope that's enough.

You mean when he was trying to get elected after civil rights were mandated?

I'm not naive enough to believe he was sincere about that.

Bingo.

Politicians say anything for a few votes.

Look at the shite show in Washington and Montgomery!

He actually first ran on an integration platform in the 50s, but lost. Then he switched in order to get elected. Thus, the people of Alabama bear as much (or more) blame for his actions as he does. It's more comfortable to blame the guy at the top, but it was the people of Alabama who elected him to 4 terms as governor and overwhelmingly voted for him to be President in 1968.

Y'all are pinning on him the guilt of millions.

The racist haters are certainly not without guilt, but Wallace gets no pass because of it. He was a very hateful man. He and the other authority figures that shared his poor character only served to encourage the many. He was a pathetic little man.

Madison seems to do reasonably well and I don't know enough about Mobile to comment but Montgomery is a shait show and Jefferson is third world level corrupt. State government is a poster child for ethical leadership compared to them.

His original statement was a fairly silly suggestion. I don't even know who "runs" Madison County. Huntsville and Madison do fairly well but outside of the city limits? Also, Jefferson County.. hell no.

I'm thinking my ideal matchup in the Gov. race would be Tommy Battle vs. Walt Maddox. Doubt it happens though.
