The thread is about Hurts so that's why I'm talking about the guy. Maybe the original poster thought everybody in the thread would be gushing all about the kid but that would be very naive to think that. Not everybody is going to agree.

If you really want a serious answer, rather than a silly name calling and trash talking argument like a couple of guys in this thread evidently want: I get the impression he's scared because he's so quick to bail out. It could be that stoic poker face isn't really because he's so calm, but is actually scared. All I know for sure is that he turned over the ball a lot, and as noted, is really quick to bail out. Even if he was scared this past season, though, doesn't mean he will be next year. Same alike, it was goofy for some guys to think that since Barnett may...I said may have been nervous the first game, that he would forever more be nervous. This thread, though, is about Hurts, and not Barnett, and also as noted, the original poster shouldn't just have assumed that everybody was going to agree with him about the kid. I'm a Bama fan, so I want every single player in crimson and white to be the best they can be. Or maybe that's the Army, but anyway, I hope he improves.

you're the typical dbag fan with the default response to a 14-1 year - "he's scared" or "the team just didn't want it as much" ...

apparently jalen doesn't have the courage you feel is necessary to play qb at a high level in college ... how would you play differently if you were the qb? ... what do you think jalen is scared of, since he's so scared? ...

You're just another ignorant guy that can't rationally discuss it, so there is no point in trying.

I am quite certain he has Saban breathing down his neck about turnovers. Whatever you do, don't turn it over...if the play isn't there don't force it because we have the D to bail us out, etc. etc. He is quick to bail because he doesn't want to force a bad pass and he is not able to process his reads as quickly at this level.

Most of the time he had to bail out because the interior linemen were getting blown up.
He obviously needs to improve his pocket presence, but I think most reasonable people didn't expect a true freshman to have his pocket composure down pat, and the line certainly didn't help.

And no, I didn't expect everyone to gush over Hurts.

If there's one thing Jalen Hurts isn't, it's scared.
Blake Sims was scared. Blake Barnett was scared. Cooper Bateman played scared. Jalen Hurts is the opposite of scared

Critique whatever you want about his arm, but his intangibles are through the roof, and that's why he won the job, as well as 14 games

Or if he converted two more third downs out of like 15.

Huddie Leadbetter "It certainly wasn't all on Jalen" is to ponder, though.

Dropped passes came at crucial times during the NCG. It was a team failure on offense. Had our receivers caught everything they should, we probably win.

I can't agree with the word scared.
It almost sounds like you don't like Hurts and use a word to describe his play that is the most demeaning you can interject.

If you are disappointed in the passing game, as many are, the blame may be better attached to the QB's that didn't win the job who had more time in the system.

What? Are you sure you watched the games last year? The last thing this kid is , is scared. What a dumb post.

What , exactly , do you want to discuss? You made a stupid statement that cannot be backed up with any kind of facts. Hurts took a beating last year and popped up every time and walked back to that huddle. He went 14-1 on his way to leading the team the NC game. He did this with shitty protection from the interior of the oline almost all year. There is a lot that can said about Hurts and there is a lot that you could talk about that he could improve on but being scared is not and has not been a problem. That statement is idiotic and makes you sound like you know nothing about football.

That was about a month and a half ago. Why would I even want to discuss it more now? It's been "discussed" already, and it hasn't changed the outcome yet. Why do you even want to perpetuate the whole thing? Why even bring it up again at this point? In case you haven't noticed, it's spring practice for a new season. It's time to look forward, and not back. Hurts will either improve or he won't and not a thing discussed on this board will change it one way or the other.

If you want to "discuss" it any more, then knock yourself out. I am not so inclined.

Congratulations. You encouraged me to keep beating a really dead horse.

Being scared isn't necessarily about getting injured. Being scared can also be about lacking the confidence that you can complete the pass, so you roll out and throw it away over and freaking over. Yes, I am sure the coaches also lacked confidence by the end of the year in Hurt's ability to read the defenses, make the proper choice, and actually complete a pass downfield to a running wide receiver, so I'm sure they did tell him to throw it away if he felt he was in trouble (and what does that tell you, that the coaches lacked confidence in him to complete the play). That he chose to bail so soon, so many times in the last few games, makes it clear to me that he did lack confidence. He may have been....scared..... that he could not complete the play.

In any event, he sucked especially in the title game. You guys have blamed the receivers, the offensive linemen, the coaches, the game plan. Everything except Hurts. Fine. It's over anyway. There isn't a reason in the world to continue to discuss this issue, unless some of you just like to argue. Surely it would not be that.

Yep.

If you pay attention to what Saban has said so far this spring, you'll notice he's been very careful about his comments on Hurts. For the first time ever, he's being assertive about who the starting QB will be next year. Why? Because he doesn't want any talk that will further undermine Hurts' confidence. Despite the stoic face that so many of our fans and the media fell in love with, Hurts was a nervous freshman last year. And that's to be expected. I just hope confidence in where and when to throw will improve his accuracy in doing so. Because, like I said very early on last year, his passes were not on target.

Yeah. I have also noticed that and thought the same thing.
