Since Hurts seems to be the most polarizing topic on this board, I thought that this might interest most of you.

The first one is from the Tennessee game, and the second is from the Florida game. These are the first two of a series this guy(an LSU guy ironically) is doing.

A few takeaways:
1. Our interior line play was bad, and did not help Hurts develop in the pocket at all.

2. A lot of Hurts's deficiencies were due to him being green. Pocket presence is something that is developed, which is a big reason that we hardly ever see true freshmen start football games in college. Same with seeing the field.

3. Generally, when Hurts was allowed to(or allows himself to) step up in the pocket, he was money. He is most inaccurate when he is outside of the pocket, which is not surprising.

Anyway, I'm sure this will turn into the usual shite show, but I enjoyed this guys breakdowns.

bonus vid: the same guy's breakdown of the LSU D against our offense last year.

What's the point? I watched the games, and I called it since the middle of the season that he was very inconsistent. I said even then that there was going to come a time that Hurts was going to have to win with his arm. I made the observation before even the SEC title game that teams had learned that if you contain him and put a little pressure on him that he won't beat you with the passing game. A little pressure and he'll bail. I think he's scared.

I don't need anybody to tell me those things. I watched it happen.

You're absolutely correct. I don't understand all the downvotes over the truth. It is, quite simply, what it is.

Wish he'd do a breakdown of the Mississippi State game. It was one of the few times we really seemed to open the playbook for him all year.

Some of the obvious bad from Hurts, the stat padding short stuff, some drops, and some great throws

If our D makes one play late against Clemson, the whole Jalen Hurts debate doesn't even exist. He'd be a stone cold legend. (I'm not blaming the D in any way for the L)

If the offense had more than 2 drives of more than 5 plays then the defense wouldn't have been on the field for 99 plays vs a good offense.

That's true. I know that. That's why I said what I said in parentheses. It certainly wasn't all on Jalen, though. My point still stands. We'd be discussing ways that the legendary true freshman that went 15-0 could get even better. You don't seem to be able to discuss Jalen Hurts without shitting all over him. It's tiresome.

I didn't even mention the name Hurts. I said the offense. The primary point, anyway, was that the defense was on the field so much, for so many plays, for so long, that it's hard to fault them, imo. It was a response to your post about the defense.

edit: That you said "It certainly wasn't all on Jalen" is to ponder, though.

I don't come here to entertain you, but since it was fairly innocuous, I am curious as to what exactly annoyed you about the response? Not other posts or threads or comments, but what exactly about that particular comment.

you are a "fricking" moron and idiot ... he might not be the best passer, and he might not ever progress, but you are the increasingly epitome of the average cfb fan - someone typing anonymously on a keyboard about a player's courage ...

re the op: the oc/hc seemed to think there were only two pass plays allowed all season - a wideout screen type play or a deep ball ... very rarely was he allowed to make some throws 'over the middle' ... and the design of the pass plays leaves a bit to be desired if you want your qb to 'progress' ... alabama can get away with a qb that doesn't become a great qb since the surrounding talent is great and the team concept is stressed - play your role, defensive scheme, dominate the individual - but if you want a qb to really progress, you have to allow mistakes (not second guessing saban here - the system works) ... saban doesn't allow mistakes ... great for college football ... not great for a qb to take it to the next level, imo ...

Some of you guys get really sensitive about this don't you, and it's pretty often the same guys that can't debate a point without personal attacks or insults.

So the head coach who has won 5 national titles, and the former O.C. who won the SEC every year he was here, took the team to the playoffs every year, and won 1 of the 2 title games in which he coached, weren't smart enough to allow Hurts to be an awesome qb. Is that right? Nevermind that the same O.C. set UA offensive records in his previous 2 years. You have the answers, but they do not. Yes, no, maybe? So Hurts could have become a great passer this year, but those dumbass coaches screwed it up. Well hell. Makes sense to me.

The things that pass for knowledge I can't understand.

IF our defense makes one play late, we win. Sure
But if our offense hadn't sucked cock the entire game, we also win.
The reason the debate exists is because our offense couldn't get it done with maybe the best college D in history backing them up.
At the end of the day, Jalen wasn't enough last year. Hopefully he will be in year 2, but he's not gonna have as strong a defense to have his back

you just called jalen hurts "scared" ... can you not critique a player without personal attacks or insults? ... or can you not be a monday morning qb like the rest of us without questioning his ability to "be brave" like you? ... what exactly do you think jalen is scared of? ...
