I actually think he lost weight. I remember seeing updated height/weights (Allen was up to 282 for example) but then rolltide.com still had old weights. I believe on the new list Anderson was 248, though I could be wrong.

I think he's gonna have a good season. This front 7...so deep no one guy may have stand out, award winning stats (well Ragland maybe for the Butkus), but a looooot of guys are gonna play in the NFL.

I'll help.

Who else is stoked that one of our four 5-Star CBs has stepped up and claimed his spot as a starter? Having two commanding corners would be really huge for us this year and we desperately need to stabilize our secondary.

I know he has the potential and ability to be great, but does it seem out of left field for Marlon to be starting this early?

Its exciting. If the hype and reports are accurate, we could have a Vernon Hargraves type on our hands with Minkah, not to mention all the other young cornerback talent we have vying for playing time.

As far as Marlon, Reauxl Tide, I don't think its that surprising. Dude is super talented, and smart. It was only a matter of time for him to come around.

not really. he was a 5 star prospect. he certainly has had a quick rise up the depth chart and he might be a little ahead of schedule, but i dont think it's a huge surprise.

I'm talking relative to what we've been hearing. Always seems like he gets the talented but a little inconsistent label. And it seems like people say he gets burned more than other guys. He's played opposite Cyrus for a few practices and BAM, he's the starter.

The competition for this CB spot has been interesting as hell since the day last season ended. And even though he's a VERY popular player, MH hasn't been talked about as much as TB and Fitz. I click the thread today and again, BAM, he's the starter! I was just shocked to read that. I'm pumped though.

he has good pedigree. I think if TB was 100% then he would be the starter but I am not sure his shoulder is aight. Kapish.

Yep, seems like our secondary is getting it's stuff together. This defense is primed to be great.

no secondary is worth crap if the front 7 cant get pressure on the QB. This has been our problem for years. And once they got out of the pocket the completion % went up. So keep the QB in the pocket please.

I don't know how to ask this without sounding like an idiot, but do talk think that being sooooo deep on the DL hurts the pass rush? I can't help but think Hand would be wrecking shite for other teams who would have to play him much more than Alabama plays him.

I think we were not looking for the fast twitch DE's as we were geared for the power run game. This has had to change. I think I heard NS's D referred to as a mush D where you dont try to sack but keep the dual threat guy in the pocket and force him to throw. I think NS may have made a fundamental change and most of the DT guys have lost weight. I think we will have a fundamental difference in the D approach when we play AU, Ole PIss, and TAMU

I think guys like Allen, Hand, and Pettway are DEs who can all have success rushing the passer. Robinson and Reed take up the space and push the pocket down on the QB. Evans and Williams are the speed rushers. Anderson is a good edge rusher too. Ragland and Reuben can be forces blitzing.

I think everyone sort of has different things they can do that can create some really fun looks defensively.

Best yet is the depth that will be fun to watch the other side keeping taps of who is on the field for us. Regardless of the combination the run is toast....so are they about to go full rape mode on the pass rush or what? Teams like WI without a mobile QB are screwed.

It sounds like Cooper Bateman may actually win the starting QB job.

As long as they have it figured out by next weekend I do not care who it is. And meaning figured out being convinced with their decision will get it done.

BOL put out a piece yesterday that mentioned it. Here's the quote:

quote:

Saban on Bateman: "Cooper's really, really improved. I meet with guys after spring practice and I told him, 'Look, you've done everything we've asked you to do for the team. You're very athletic. You went out and tried to play receiver when we needed you to do that. But if you're going to be a quarterback, we want you to improve your accuracy as a passer, your ability to take care of the ball. You're very athletic. You're the kind of quarterback we'd like to have here. And lo and behold, he did that. He did that in May, he did that over the summer."

"His completion percentage has been very, very good relative to the other guys and he is very athletic and he can run. We like a quarterback to be like that."

The mods had this to say (along with 6-7 other paragraphs) in regards to Saban's quote:

quote:

Like Sims, the time between spring practice and fall camp seems to have been well spent on improving as a passer. In terms of transitioning to the next starter, going with Bateman might actually prove to be the most seamless of the trio.

That doesn't mean that we don't have a good quarterback. It means we may have more than one quarterback and they are both playing very well or three guys are playing really well.

This is what I've been saying. I think everyone needs to stop believing the doomsday talk coming from practice. There are talented QB's on the roster, and the coaches are taking their time picking which will be the best starter.

Also, Saban looked like a kid in a candy store yesterday. Either he really likes this team, or he's gone soft and will win 6 games a year from now on.
