This is 100% how I feel. Blake exceeded everyone's expectations and had us in position to win it all. However there is a reason he can barely make a CFL roster. He just isn't that good of a qb.

I thought this was a thread about practice.

Anyone know how Kenyan Drake has been doing? Is he looking strong in practices after coming off of the leg injury?

I've heard good things about Drake, but I'm in the "believe it when I see it" camp.

also, anybody who is complaining about Blake Sims is a dumbass and a shitty fan.

Nobody complained about Blake. I think Rah Rah fans are shitty fans. You don't have to pretend someone was perfect to respect them.

Update:

Per my staff source, Coker starts. If he struggles in the opinion of the staff he is pulled. More to follow if anything

Per Boz

I thought Sims was very accurate on the underneath throws that make our west coast O run. We've gotten spoiled because AJ and GMAC were very accurate on those throws as well. From what I've seen, Coker struggles on these type of throws so we might see it utilized less with him as QB. Perhaps more run game and play action.

For the record, I've given up trying to guess who will be the QB. I just think that of those 5 guys, most of which were pretty highly recruited, one of them will be a good player this year. And I think the coaches will find him.

I'm anxious to see the O-line and RB's this year. I think that's what our success depends upon. How was Scarborough doing before the injury?

I agree.

Bo was looking great before the injury. But reports are that he is pretty gimpy at this point in his rehab. I'm not expecting much from him until very late in the season. Harris is probably a more likely option as the 3rd RB right now.

I'm not complaining. I'm providing my analysis of Blake's abilities...not just looking at numbers and going "he was great!"

Remember when the guy was tweeting out scrimmage stuff and said while Coker's stats looked good, he was making terrible throws that the WR was bailing him out. This is no different IMO. The numbers don't always tell the story is the general point I'm getting at.

They're all great kids but let's not let that blind us from the fact that our admiration of them as people can affect our opinion of their actual performances on the field.

I agree about Harris. I think he's going to end up with a big role. I love Drake, but I think he'll be used more as a 3rd down, or versatile type guy that lines up everywhere. I was asking about Bo because we're one injury away from being very thin.

I guess Im in the minority in believing that Drake is a more effective RB in our system than Henry...

I'd refer you to my opinion of Henry, but I don't want to start ANOTHER argument. But, I think Henry will do well, if the O-line is good. Once he gets into the secondary, he's great. I hope Drake hasn't lost a step. He'll be fun to watch if the injury didn't slow him down.

are you serious with this shite? You are comparing Coker's practice stats to Blake's actual on-field performance that broke school records? Please tell me, how exactly did Cooper "bail" Sims out last year? Link me to some of the impossible, circus catches that he bailed Sims out on last year. Thanks.

Me too. I think Drake has a very high ceiling and is a bit underrated.

The sky is the limit for Drake if he is healthy, and can stay healthy, and hold onto the ball.

He is much more physical than people perceive him as being, and he has the cut and burst ability that few in football have.

I'm more excited about Drake than anyone else on the offense honestly. He can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball and I love the way Kiffin uses him. I am really curious to see who starts though at qb....at this point its something new everyday and I'm done trying to predict it. Though I'm not gonna lie with all the things we are hearing about Barnett I am really starting to want Coker this year and then Barnett takes over next year.

Regardless though...Whoever gives us the best chance to win this year. We have a legitimate shot to win it all.

For this team it's all about the o-line play. We are going to have the best defense we have had in a few years. Definitely a good enough defense to put us in contention for the NC.

As long as our o-line plays well I am not worried about rb or wr. Or qb for that matter. We have a lot of some serious talent there though some of it is unproven. It's not like they are freshman though most of them just havent seen serious playing time before. We won in 09 and 11 with a new qb built on a strong running game and defense. We can do it again. Although I think we will probably pass it a little more than those teams did. Kiffin + talented receivers....we will pass a good bit. I really hope we run the ball more than we did last year though.

that's the question though..is the o-line gonna be able to step it up after these past few years of not quite up to par play. With the talent we have I really think everything else falls into place if the o-line plays at a high level.

I really do think we have a great chance of winning the NC this year.

Any info on the o-line lately?

Not my fight, not my argument, but I will acknowledge that Blak made SEVERAL short passes (screens, slants, outs, drags) to Cooper that Amari took for long gains (long TD against UT is an example off top of my head). Cooper also did a job of getting wide-arse-open from time to time (Florida, Auburn come to mind) and giving Blake easier throws.

I think - again, not my argument, so I don't know - the guy's point was that Cooper made Sims look better than he may have actually been as a QB and that it remains to be seen if we have a Cooper caliber player to provide similar assistance to whoever this year's QB is.

I'll just interject and say it is probably best if everyone disagreeing over how good Blake really was just agrees to disagree. Neither side is gonna fold, and I don't think the Pro-Sims side is homerism and I don't think the "Sims wasn't as good as the #s show" side has malicious intent. Best to just let this one rest and agree everyone loves them some Blake Sims no matter what they think of his skill level.

I'd also like to say that a lot of people seem to think this is kind of a rebuilding year.

I thought going into last year that it would be a "rebuilding" year and this year would be a dominate, 09/11/12 type year. Still think that. With the talent we have on offense and the play calling of Kiffin, we should be fine with whoever we have at QB unless they're just wildly inaccurate and make absolutely stupid decisions.

Even if we can't score, Scott will consistently pin opposing offenses inside their 20 and against this D I have a hard time seeing anyone actually drive far enough from that starting point to score more than one or two TDs. Maybe a few offenses could.
