I am guessing Saban gave him that list (after the Spring session) with the understanding that if he showed improvement, then he would be given a shot at actually playing QB. Apparently he has done enough to warrant at least being the 3rd guy, if not higher.

Forest Gump could be the QB of the NS offense and we would still win 10 games. Anyone better then Gump will get us to 12 wins.

Was really hyped about signing Bateman, and for a while I thought he could be the guy. It seemed like he fell off (and I guess he did until this camp started) and that was kind of a bummer as I think most of us thought he had a lot of potential. Now to hear Saban speak so highly of him is huge.

Forrest Gump was an All-American. I know he was a running back, but given his absolute inability to fail at anything he tried, he likely would have been an All-American at QB too if that was what was needed.

How many game does Brandon Avalos win as QB of the 2015 team?

The Wishbone with Gump as the qb would be deadly

My only hesitation with him as a wishbone QB would be the ability to read defenses. Now put him in the wildcat and let him run downhill and you've got something there.

According to my Twitter feed apparently Barnett has a famous girlfriend. Not sure how famous, but that's what the tweet said. What this means is that any games Brent calls with Blake starting will be hilarious.

He's coming into the role of an Alabama QB nicely.

(not directed towards who I'm replying too, just in general)

I can't believe how many of you take Saban at his word. You know he uses the media for the purpose of sending messages to the team more so than he does putting out useful information. He see's a guy working hard in practice, he wants to mention them. He see's a guy not working as hard in practice, he wants to mention another guy.

Nobody has a clue who's it going to be until we play Wisconsin. Has it ever not been that way with Saban when we had talent at the position?

I keep hearing things like they haven't wowed the staff. I doubt that is true. AJ and Phillip Sims went into the 2011 and shared time in the 1st game. Both are now on NFL rosters. Both were good QB's and what they were looking for was seperation.

Alabama returned to the practice field Friday afternoon, as the Crimson Tide players practiced outdoors and in shells on a mostly-cloudy, 90-degree afternoon in Tuscaloosa. It was the team's 20th day of fall practice.

Here are several tidbits from the media viewing portion of Alabama's 23rd practice session on Friday afternoon:

- The Crimson Tide began its preparation for the Wisconsin Badgers today, as several scout-team jerseys dotted the practice field. Alabama will square off against the Badgers on Saturday, Sept. 5, in Arlington, Texas.

- Notable scout-team jerseys were running back Bo Scarbrough wearing a No. 6 jersey, representing Wisconsin start Corey Clement, safety Shawn Burgess-Becker wearing No. 7, representing the Badgers' returning-leading tackler Michael Caputo, defensive lineman O.J. Smith wearing No. 94, presenting nose tackle Conor Sheehy and outside linebacker Joshua McMillon wearing No. 34, representing defensive end Chikwe Obasih.

- There were also several young Crimson Tide defensive backs wearing Nos. 5 and 8, which represent Wisconsin's starting cornerbacks Darius Hillary and Sojourn Shelton, respectively.

- Senior Jacob Coker once again led the quarterbacks line in the viewing period, followed by redshirt junior Alec Morris.

- In the one and only viewing period, the QBs split up into two lines. As it has been for some time, Coker and Morris made up one line, while David Cornwell, Cooper Bateman and true freshman Blake Barnett made up the other.

- I saw Coker launch a beauty of a deep ball toward the end of the viewing period. Chris Black wasn't able to pull it in.

*** What's next: Alabama will return to the practice field Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. CT.

One practice so too much shouldn't be made of this, but apparently today gave some the impression that the light came on for Coker.

We'll see if he keeps it up. Consistency has been what he's been missing.
