From a guy on BOL:

quote:

I heard this story last week. I was told that Key was taking over the OL, Cristobal to TE and Williams to WR??? The last part about Williams threw me off, but the person said Napier was moving on. This person has the contacts, but even he was confused. I guess this will shake out in time. You would think this would need to take place quickly with spring training coming up.

I hope the part about Napier isn't true.

BOL is confirming the Key hire:

quote:

Key, 37, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Georgia Tech in 2001. From there he spent one season at Western Carolina before moving to UCF in 2005, where he spent 11 years. A native of Birmingham, Key was in charge of recruiting northwest Alabama for the Knights, as well as other hotbeds like Florida and northwest Georgia.

In his 11th overall season at UCF, Key completed his first year as its offensive coordinator and running backs coach in 2015. He spent the previous six seasons as the program's offensive line coach, where he will reportedly coach at UA. Before that, Key served as the Knights' tight ends and special teams coach, while also having the role of recruiting coordinator.

In 2012-14, Key was a nominee for the Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in college football.

From an "insider" on BOL:

quote:

Napier didn't land many/any targets on the recruiting trail. Rumor is Saban was/is hot over it. Supposedly a pretty strong rift between him and Kiffin as well. Looks like Kiffin is staying, so.....

Any word on Robinson? Wasn't he suppose to get his test score last week? If he hasn't scheduled a visit to Stanford, I guessing he didn't get the score needed to go there.

The same schtick he's been using for years. There's never been an assistant or QB he's liked at Alabama.

I believe bench has a permaban on this this board, but can post on the rant. Looks like someone else on the rant is trying to get a permaban from this board.

^^^ THIS ^^^ And the DL from NC that the Barn signed that wouldn't visit because of rasslin meets. Napier has also not done very well.

Napier has been the assistant that's been on the brink of being pushed out for two years now. Not really a surprise. He was considered an average position coach and recruiter (even if his reputation was as a pretty good recruiter before he came here). I just wish they wouldn't put Bobbeh in his spot.

Key has turned down multiple HC jobs for small programs, notably UAB.
