In addition to the longevity that Robertson would add, I wonder how much Deiter's track record played into the delay by the staff.

As I posted on the rant, he is certainly a talent.

He set the national single game receiving record in HS (which has been broken again since) and had just about every receiving record in Indiana history. Yet, he was only a 3 star and didn't get a ND offer in spite of being a South Bend kid.

Then, booted off SMU after 10 games before finally landing at BGSU.

If he is Bama bound, I hope he's seen the light or he may be in Tuscaloosa shorter than Mike Price.

Does anyone know anything regarding Robertson? Seems like everyone is guessing at this point.

Be kinda hard for anyone to know anything about Robertson since Robertson doesnt know anything about Robertson.

"Booted"? You're making him out to be something he's not.

He didn't get kicked off SMU, he left after the season because his lead recruiter had left after he signed and he wasn't happy with his spot on the depth chart. Dozens do that every year.

Bowling Green had 2 of his former teammates, and were also accepting another and Dieter's brother as a walk-on. It made it an easy choice for him to return home.

As far as not having a ND offer out of HS, who is really gonna hold that against him? He had inflated stats out of HS just like he had at Bowling Green. He's a good player, but it's plain to see he's not Jerry Rice out there making and breaking records.

I guess you had a reason to pop off at me. What was that reason? Are you a punk arse?

Wtf you talking about? I'm saying you wait until Robertson announces. For example last year would we have accepted Mull any for 1 year then told ridley we didn't have any room??? Nothing I said to you was personal but go and change that tampon you're bleeding every where lol...

That's fair.

Booted was wrong of me to say as it was pure speculation on my part made from reading up on him between the articles at the time of his transfer and both ND and SMU boards. I certainly should have clarified that better.

He quoted lack of playing time once and his position coach at another time. Fans of ND said his attitude was poor and known in HS with rumors of the same at SMU (could have been sour grapes).

I thought it peculiar that he had managed to crack the starting rotation as a FR after Darius Joseph's injury but after the third game and a nice start for a true frosh, something changed. With no injury, he only recorded stats in one more game and did not participate in 4 others.

Then, he says he wants to depart and his coach makes some calls vs. talking him into staying.

I was reading through the lines, but it seemed more like an attitude issue that changed his playing time and likely influenced a mutual decision for his departure.

Admittedly, I may be off on that assessment and will gladly retract it all if so. But it seems like a plausible deduction from what I've surfed through. But, you're correct. Likely unfair for me to speculate. It just seemed to fit together like a few stories we've seen at UA when a player gets "unhappy" in the program.

Here's why Gehrig Dieter will need to get a waiver from the NCAA. You can't play for three different 4-year schools:

Maybe Dieter already got his waiver. Hopefully that's what he was having to wait on.

He does seem to be crossed up in his reasoning from leaving SMU, which is a cause for some level of speculation. I've seen him mention 2-3 different things why.

quote:

Then, he says he wants to depart and his coach makes some calls vs. talking him into staying.

The quote I saw from June Jones was that was what Dieter wanted them to do:

quote:

“I told him I’d do whatever I could to help him,” coach June Jones said. “He asked us to call a couple schools, and we did.”

Bottom line, some guys carry some level of immaturity that disguises itself as entitlement early on in their career. It's part of them growing up in college, some find it sooner than others. He took his ball and went home, but hopefully the 2-3 years after was what he needed

Its funny how these things seem to only happen to Bama...any other school would be able to get him in.

Luke Del Rio - UA, Oregon St, UF

So, at least, it can be done.

Bruce Feldman article on Dieter

quote:

Dieter, a Dean’s list student, will need to get a waiver to become eligible. “We talked to the compliance people here and they felt pretty confident about (getting) the waiver,” Dieter told FOX Sports Saturday afternoon. “He said there have been like 45 people in my situation and they’ve all gotten approved."
