Edge setters and passrushers will be divided until they find someone who does both well enough. Devall is there to fill out the balance between Dickson/Williams/Evans.

Its an imperfect solution to a problem they have a hard time solving. Maybe Lupoi brings something new to the table, I know Sal and LT's opinion of the OLB spots were night and day...

Yeah now that you mention it I think he has. I don't know. I think someone gets moved inside but I kinda view Devall as penciled in as a starter at OLB

He did move from DE to MLB his senior year.

I think Bama facilitated it, fell in love with Rush LB after Bama moved him there in a camp.

While comparing current high school football players to current NFL stars may seem a bit of a stretch, it's a question our analysts get all time. So let's take a stab at it as is our annual tradition as Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell compares the top 10 defensive players in the class of 2015 to some NFL standouts.

DT Daron Payne

NFL comp: Marcell Dareus, Buffalo Bills
Why not compare an immovable object headed to Alabama to a former immovable object that dominated for the Tide and is now one of the best run stuffers in the NFL? Payne is a slightly better natural pass rusher than Dareus and he will play more in a 4-3 set than Dareius had to, but the comparison is easy to make. Payne could have a similar career and a similar NFL path if he continues to progress.

DE CeCe Jefferson

NFL comp: Charles Johnson, Carolina Panthers
Jefferson is a hard comparison because he's such a tweener. He plays at his best inside and off of contact, but he projects outside and isn't the tallest defensive end. Johnson isn't either, but he's a bad man and when Jefferson gets up into the 280 range, he could be very similar. Both players are good against the run, have a knack for making big plays and can rush the passer very well because of excellent inside moves and a nasty shoulder dip.

Ragland/Foster/Devall are all MIKE LB thumpers.

Lee/Hamilton are our best options at Will LB but Hamilton needs to bulk up a bit and get better at taking on blockers.

Jones is smart but does not seem to be fast enough to play at Will or the thumper nature to be a MIKE. He may be a better fit to move to Full Back.

Holcombe and Mosley @ Will - still too many unknowns but spring will shake that out.

i wonder if they would consider moving Walker Jones to FB if we had more depth at the inside linebacker spots.

Yeah he needs to move to FB. Didn't even think he was still on defense. Rarely have seen him ever

OLB, and I think a lot of people have forgotten about him.

Anyone heard any updates about how big he's gotten?

I'd be happy if they could just get him over 220.

This is exactly where I am at. Not upset about any flips and as stated do not want to take someone just to fill a spot and be processed later. If we can hold onto who we have I am content. Any addition at this point is a bonus

i think ryan anderson has practiced inside more than devall though. i thought i remembered tim williams playing inside some too? we crosstrain alot of guys. hes got pretty perfect size for will, and tons of range. if miller has bulked up enough in a year i could see him and evans being the primary pass rushers off the edge and williams moving inside, would become our most athletic ILB. they could still move him around to rushh and casue confusion, like the used to with hightower. miller was a sack machine in HS, clowney like numbers playing the same HS teams, so im hoping hes ncaa ready next year
