If we don't land Sexton, Petty, or any big names in this 2017 class that will get us noticed on the national stage, I'm gonna lose faith in our ability to change the face of Alabama basketball. If Avery had a huge advantage of being one of the first to recruit Sexton and having the lead and then we lose him to someone else, I don't know if it can be done at Bama. I'm growing more nervous as time goes on with 0 commits. I'm not giving up yet tho. We'll see how this thing unfolds.

Other than coleman coliseum, im pretty ignorant about the rest of our basketball facilities. Could that possibly be a factor thats holding us back? lack of fan support? Just trying to understand why there is such a barrier to us becoming a basketball school in addition to football.

The facilities are all pretty nice I think. The arena is old and outdated. We still have that problem of selling out games but having a ton of people not show up. We haven't made the tourney since 2012 and haven't won a tourney game in 10 years. We have a little bit of basketball history and success but not a lot. Also, everyone constantly uses the "They only care about football" saying to make us look bad. And we haven't had a player selected in the NBA draft in forever. We have ALOT going against us. Especially when u try to get a top 10 player like Sexton. The thing we have going for us is a good, well known coach who recruits hard and knows how to coach. That's good but may not be enough. If we could just land ONE top 20 recruit, then others would follow.

Winning cures everything, even recruiting. Our hoops facilities besides the cavernous Coleman are very good.

IF this class is disappointing, I don't think next year's will be. I fully expect this team to make a big improvement. I think the recruits will see that and be more ready to get on board. However, I still think CAJ is going to get a great class. And that will just help us next year even more.

I do think he would be able to have a good class next year, the only thing that worries me is, isn't next year's in-state class pretty much down? Aren't they all like 3 stars with some 4 stars? I'm just hoping we take advantage of the really good 4 stars like Reese and the 5 star in state like Petty because we don't know when our state will produce elite talent again.

Exactly my sentiments. The new car smell has probably worn off a bit for us with Sexton now. It'll come down to relationships. Do Sexton and Petty love Avery and staff enough to turn away from the instant success and recognition that Kentucky and Kansas will provide? Verdict is still out

I asked Jerry Meyer on Twitter about where he thought things stood with Sexton and Bama with Kansas getting the last 2 crystal ball picks and this is what he said. Nothing has really changed too much I guess

I imagine the same as has been. Better question is probably how do they stand with Kansas.

Ominous. That's pretty much Jerry admitting that things could change if Kansas chooses to go all out on him. Gawd I hate those blue bloods.

The only thing that's going to get us guys like Sexton is winning...we just have to lock the home state guys down and develop them first. To bad Sexton blew up. If he goes somewhere else its not Avery's fault just that we don't have the tradition.

That's what basically everyone says about Alabama relative to college football.

I wouldn't doubt if we all had a Twitter relationship and were just unaware. I know BigBird for sure. Still working on identifying some others.
