I think the general consensus of this thread is hoping for Sexton, Petty, Reese and Jones.

That would be an insane class, plus the addition of Giddens.

Just getting Sexton would be great. Then Petty and Reese would take it to a whole new level. If we also added Hammonds and/or Jones, you start dreaming of what could be next year. Plus we have to assume Avery and the staff will really help Giddens develop during his redshirt year.

Erwin Dudley, Richard Hendrix, Chuck Davis... All under the basket bigs about yge same size as Bola and all rebounded great. Even in the NBA guys like Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman dominated the boards at around the 6'8 range. Hell Cinna on Bowers controlled the paint against ua when he wanted and he has to be no more than 6'6. We have athletic bits and we get abused on the boards we need someone who can put their arse on someone.

Troy Brown just got CB'd to Kansas.

I don't think anybody really knows where he's going to end up.

All are at least an inch taller. Hendrix is 6'9". I'm not saying he can't do it, just that it looks like he can barely jump.

Bola has really improved his offensive game, so much that he can face up and go around people, and also has 10-12 ft jumper.

That's from a SIU writer that covered Bola

Dejuan Blair, Charles Barkley, and Chuck Hayes were all terrific rebounders at one point in the NBA and all were 6'6" or under. None of them particularly athletic.

Dennis Rodman couldn't jump and was all kinds awkward, but he sure could hustle and get to the ball. He was only 6'7", I believe

In college basketball skills over athleticism. That's why those unknown teams with lots of seniors do well. They don't have the athletes but they know how to play the game.

One thing to note about Bola: his free throw percentage was at 66% last year.

Not good.

If by "not good" you mean 30% better than JT/Donta, then yes I agree with you.

No, I mean 66% is not good and it's another poor FT shooter on the team. Shannon Hale is our best returning FT shooter at 74%. That's concerning to me.

It's funny how two people can interpret a number so differently. Cecil's article implies how great it is that he's a 66% free throw shooter while it's an area of concern to you.

I guess so. People on here complained about Retin missing too many FT's and he was a 70% FT shooter last year.

66% isn't a terrible number for a guy like Bola imo. But I do think Hale should be at least slightly better than 75%, he certainly should not be any worse than that.

Hall and Taylor definitely need to improve, because it's kind of ridiculous to be that poor at shooting free throws. If they could somehow get to 60% or close to it, I would be happier.

Dazon and Riley both need to dramatically improve their numbers as well, because they will be missing out on a lot of points that we will need next year if we are going to go dancing.

Without knowing or looking, I would assume Braxton and Armond are pretty good FT shooters. Also assuming King is around a 70% guy, haven't looked that up though.

I don't remember what we shot as a team last year, but if we shot 10% better overall, we win a few games that we actually lost last year and probably could've made the tournament. It is definitely something that I hope has been improved in the offseason.

Poor free throw shooting has always been a major pet peeve of mine though, so I've almost always had higher expectations in that area than maybe I should.

I think that's looking at what position they play and the number of times they get to the line. No one should be as bad a free throw shooter as Taylor and Hall(though his form has the potential to be decent), but it's more understandable since they are bigs. Nothing frustrates me more than watching a guard be a bad free throw shooter. Hopefully that's one area Dazon was able to work on while his foot was messed up.

Why I kind of wish Coleman didn't transfer out. He was always a guy Alabama could rely on late in the game to close it out. Plus someone who could drive to the basket, but kick it out to the top of key for an open shot. He was a streaky jump shooter, but could have been a good player in time.

It's why I cringed hard when I heard he was leaving, while most just shrugged their shoulders. Justin was very disappointing in his 1st 2 seasons, but the potential was evident. Even if he didn't improve he was at least always someone we could count on for late FTs. The good news is Davis was an 84% FT shooter last year, so we at least can hope to have someone reliable enough to hit the end-game FTs. I also expect Norris to improve in that area as an upper classman.

If only Coleman was a few inches taller. His size hurts him.
