I really don't like Norris at anything other than the 4....

Still think Nick King will be a monster at the 3. Thought it when he was at Memphis.

I could be wrong, but I see Davis as a heavy favorite for the 2 spot.

My depth chart prediction to start season:

PG - Ingram/Collins/AJjr
SG - Davis/Austin
SF - King/Norris
PF - Hale/Key/Bola
C - Taylor/Hall

Bench in order of PT - Norris, Hall, Collins, Key, Bola, Austin, AJjr.

Going to be interesting seeing this play out. We have so many players with positional versatility.

I'll go out on a limb and say Riley starts most games. He's the kind of hard worker that Avery loves. We'll see. If the new guys are too good to keep off the floor, I'll be ok with that too!

Do you think Johnson would want both Dazon and Collins to start the game? I imagine there will be times when they'll play together, but I personally wouldn't want our two primary ball handlers to open the game. I want Collins to be the PG that leads the second unit. Then again, if he's one of our best guards, put him out there as much as possible.

My early starting lineup guess would be Dazon, Davis, King, Hale, and Taylor.

I agree with your starting lineup. I wonder what kind of PT Bola was told he'd be looking at for him to come here? I gotta think he figures he'll be getting at worst close to 20 minutes a game.

Yea I think he would play more than Key. I'd honestly start Riley over Hale at the 4. Much better player. Rebounds and defends better.

Last year mpg:

Retin 32
Arthur 29
Coleman 26
Kessens 17

All those minutes will be replaced and dispersed. And since we appear to be a little deeper and hopefully won't have to lean on one guy so much, I think we may not have anyone averaging over 30 minutes a game. Some nights guys will be on and playing well and then other nights guys will have an off night or get into foul trouble. I think we might see 10 guys average over 15 mpg with 8 of them over 20-28 mpg.

Dazon
Armond
King
Hale
Jimmie

That's my guess at the initial starting 5, but I don't think Avery will be scared to mess around with it after we see the first few games. I do have a worry that if Hale is replaced by Norris or Key in the starting unit at some point that he could go into sulk mode.

One thing CAJ has done is upgraded the length of this team overall. We have AJJ and the Law Firm at 5'11, but then everybody except Collins is over 6'5. When you start a group of 6'5, 6'5 (or 6'7), 6'7, 6'8, and 6'10, you can easily switch everything on D, and pick your poison on offense of who you want to have a mismatch.
Dang it, now I'm wanting hoops season to hurry up and get here and we haven't even started the other season.

Yes I do. Collins is a shooter. Play him off ball and let Ingram be the distributor. Defensively Collins can guard the point in man. Ingram can guard the 2.

I got nothing against Davis, but it's so hard for a JUCO to come in and start immediately.

God it will never stop apparently.

When we needed Norris the most down the stretch of the season to make it in to the tournament he was a disaster.

I don't think it's hard for a JUCO to start, the main reason Juco's are recruited are for them to come in and make an instant impact. At least that's the way it works in football.

Works that way in basketball too. Hoidberg was making a living on Juco's at ISU.

Riley at least always provided defense and hustle. Hale was off offensively in most games and when he was off he provided revolving-door defense. Give me last year's Norris over last year's Hale any day of the week.

Having said that Hale has the potential to be very good if he improves his consistency and starts playing less selfishly.

It's also how Marshall made Wichita State into a contender.

Some do. Some don't. It took Sprewell a whole year to adjust but by SEC tournament he was unstoppable.

RE Davis: I don't want to create an expectation that he can't live up to. He can contribute to the team even if he doesn't start. All I'm saying is he might need an adjustment period and that's ok.

I don't want to turn this into a Chicago Bulls basketball thread, but every single bit of everything bad that has happened to the bulls in the past 5 to 6 years, all 100% of that blame goes directly to Derrick Rose in my mind. His body is literally made of tissue paper and grapes. He is the softest athlete I've ever seen

Can't completely put it all on Derrick, his body failed him.

Reinsdorf and GarPax carry the majority of the blame.

They didn't have the right players for his system (somehow regressed there now too). His ISU teams shot charts were like wet dream to NBA analytics guys.

Do y'all really trust Dazon that much at point? I think he plays off the ball a good bit honestly. Collins will get a ton of minutes at the point. Avery's system is a bit untraditional anyway. You'll see a lot of Davis, Ingram and Collins at the same time if the ball is moving the way Avery wants and we are getting shots up quickly.
