We were waiting for WSU's season to end. It ended tonight. We'll most likely get in touch with Gregg this weekend. Kind of just waiting for more info than that right now.

I read that Miller got an extension and big raise. Is he still #2 on the list?

Most likely.

I figure it was either Miller or that is second on our list. Looks like #2 is now just Shaka. We'll probably start heading rumbles in the next couple days.

But to save you thirty pages of trolls and gumpdom, supposedly Battle isn't afraid to drop insane money to make a big hire. He wants to leave his mark on the program.

Well if he pulls this hire off, he is definitely setting the program up for success.

We have a lot of money to throw around. Let's see if it works. A big hire will get the ball rolling on a new facility as well.

Agreed, but it still feels like this could just be a play by Marshall to get a big raise from WSU and/or to get a higher tier program to make a move for him.

I will say that even if that happens I am 100% in favor of what Alabama is doing even if it doesn't work with Marshall. Go after the best guy that is even a remote possibility with your very best offer and then move down the list. If they do this, they should get a good coach and in my opinion you can't really fault the strategy. Sure others will point and laugh and say Alabama was rejected and has egg on their face, but who cares?

They can laugh all they want - but when a guy gets offered +$3mill/yr, huge recruiting funds, luxury accomodations at his disposal, and an unlimited amount of resources to operate his program and he still turns down the opportunity, well I wont feel like UA has egg on their face.

I agree, but the trolls will have their talking point:

"Alabama basketball is so bad and undesirable, that coaches turn down $2 million pay raises just to avoid Bama."

I remember the trolls after the Saban hire........

- Saban will never be able to recruit like he did at LSU
- Saban will never win a championship at two different schools
- Saban will jump at the first job - he's all about the money
- Saban will never be happy in Tuscaloosa
- Saban has never had an undefeated season
- Saban desperately wants to prove himself in the NFL
- Saban has never stayed at any program more than 3-4-5 years
- Saban going to Texas - they will pay off his bad debt
- Saban going to Cleveland - they will give him a share of the team
- Saban hiring Lane Kiffin is desperation
- Saban is too old to evolve his offense

I'm sure there are dozens more great trolls on Saban - and I've literally sat behind my keyboard for years laughing at the phantom dreams these jackasses come up with every year.

The big thing is finding a coach that wants to match Saban's success. The problem is even if you do that and the guy is in the spotlight every year, you're still not bigger than football because it's Alabama. Not to mention the fact that Calipari and K are probably the only coaches that are to basketball what Saban is to football.

You're going to have to force someone's decision with a paycheck. Sure, the money is there but that doesn't make it a profitable decision for Bama to spend it in an area they likely aren't going to see an optimum return from. Will Bama athletics be bigger because of better basketball? How much bigger? Very small chance that it's enough to justify pouring that much more money into.

It isn't just about money, it's about allocating that money as best you can to get the biggest return possible. Being rich doesn't mean you make irresponsible monetary decisions.
