On Wednesday, former LSU coach Ed Orgeron joined 1010XL Jacksonville radio and was asked about the expectation at LSU with new coach Brian Kelly.

His answer was simple... Win a National Championship.

Miles would have won in year 2 with Flynn instead of jecrampus muscle

The wheels came off the O wagon, and he had to go. But up to and including the last National Championship he was an high caliber coach and recruiter. Glad to see him still supporting LSU. That’s class!

Thanks for the Natty, Coach! I don't care what anyone else says.

I think Ed does not understand that he would still be here had he not played 500 football the last 2 yrs with the team culture completely falling off the rails.

Not that he's wrong but the way he flamed out, he should just shut up and chase his blonde hos.

I wanna hear what Brandy’s thoughts are.

Brian Kelly needs to find his version of Joe Burrow.

Miles won in year 3 with Matt Flynn. Saban won in year 4 with Matt Mauck. Orgeron is not completely off base with his summarization of what the expectations are, and Brian Kelly does not necessarily need a generational QB to achieve it.

Win or get outta here. Goes for any LSU coach, past, present and future.

So O is an ambassador for LSU. Shouldn’t someone care about the school before they turn him lose to attend ND practices, make comments on national media and act like he really cares about anything other than Ed O? If he really cared he would have been a man, accepted responsibility for 20 & 21, and taken a lot less buyout money. What am I missing?
user avatar
What are you missing? Seems like a lot. You hated him while he was still here. Now you all of the sudden care what he says when he compliments ND? So you don’t want him, but don’t want him to compliment another school? He’s not our servant. He was fired. As for taking less money, would you take less money if your employer fired you and offered you a buyout? Of course not. Nobody would.

No coach EVER takes less money for having poor seasons. Why single O out?

He had a contract and he didn’t break it…LSU did that. “Bust a deal, face the wheel.”

Now you know what a retard this guy was with his expectations when THE ENTIRE LANDSCAPE OF THE SPORT CHANGED WITH TRANSFER PORTAL COUPLED WITH NIL. Great leaders are out in front of this instead of chasing tail hoping to get fired knowing the shite show that he left on Compliance and Title IX.

No. 3 years and we should be going to New Year’s Day bowls minimum. Lsu has stepped up there nil game and it’s at a level that you should still be able to win in 3 years at

Louisiana has produced three nattys under three coaches. The players made that happen. BK is proven as a coach who wins and LSU is proven as a team with great players, This could be really fun for the next 5-10 seasons
user avatar
Hangit26 months
Yeah, those 3 nattys in '58, '03, '07, and '09 were awesome.

oops, '19.

Brian Kelly is unproven - never won the big game.

How many "big games" did O win before getting HC? Saban?
user avatar
Tigerpride1826 months
He’s won national championships at different levels and has won more games than any notre dame coach. How is that not winning big. Notre dames recruiting challenges makes it hard to win a championship at. They just don’t have the recruiting area to produce the skill players needed to win at that level anymore. They had academic restrictions also

Win natty 1x every 10 yrs and compete for SEC title every 2 yrs! Thats being real
user avatar
RightWingTiger26 months
Just wait until Oklahoma & Texas get into the SEC, its going to be as hard (if not harder) to win the SEC as it is the NC now!

There goes the LSU fans with ridiculous expectations. No way ever for any team to be in title hunt every 2-3 yrs! Only Bama can claim that under saban in recent history! And just because we got 3 in 16 yrs remember it was like 40 yrs in between

10 win average, regular presence in the top 10, in national title conversation every 2-3 years, top 5 recruiting classes - but most importantly don't have any "shite the bed" years and have program consistency. That's how you keep the job. Ed Orgeron was the worst program manager in the country after 2019.
user avatar
Tiger Vision26 months
Bare minimum, compete for a national championship 3 out of 5 years. Win a national championship 1 out of 5 years. Average top 5 recruiting class. Average 10 wins.

Springlake Tiger26 months
Winning a natty every 5 years is a bit much, maybe playing in the natty every five years is a requirement, but if you look at the history of college fb, LSU is not in the same category as Bama, Ohio State and a few others. I think you are looking at this from a 2003 until now view, but that just so happens to be the golden era of LSU football. The floor should be nine wins a year with a catastrophe year being 8 wins. The true expectation is 10 wins and above each year and in the playoff conversation going into November each year. We should be in the playoff at least once every 2 or 3 years and in the natty game every 5 and should win one of those every 10 years. If I were AD that would be my realistic expectation that I would share with the head coach.
user avatar
Springlake Tiger26 months
and if the playoff expands to 12 or 16, the expectation should be to be in the playoff just about every year. Should be doable if you are a perennial top 10 team.
user avatar
Tiger198826 months
Nope. Not anymore in todays transfer portal and a broke arse place competing with a lack of NIL support. It is now 1/10 years to play for a title. Try living like me and 1958-2003.

Well the last 3 head coaches won a National Championship in their first 3 seasons. BK is on the clock.

Miles and Ogre took over with a ton of talent. BK got left a pile of dog manure.
