I've always been real annoyed for some reason about the assumption people were real dumb just centuries ago.
My personal favorite is "they built this and the wheel wasn't even invented yet". That is a ridiculous statement. If you roll something on a damn log then you have a wheel. Pretty sure the wheel has been around for many 10s of thousands of years in one form or another.
This arrogance and stupidity is why people think aliens built ancient structures.

This cycle might repeat. Aliens might be old Earth dwellers who escaped. Life may have been wiped out, and repopulated several times.
