I run online advertising for 3 businesses. A roofing, hair salon, and honey producer. I manage their social media accounts including advertising, SEO, and branding. I approached them by either cold calling their business or by my own online advertisement.

Man I'd be trying to reach out to totally different types of companies. I know you have to start somewhere but if you're going to make money, I don't think it's going to be on companies with less than a handful of employees. I'd start by cold calling everyone in a sales heavy field. Insurance agents, realtor's, law offices, mortgage companies, etc. If you want to make it work, there's no reason you shouldn't call 5 of each per day. Anyone that has been successful in building their own business has had to drive revenue themselves at some point. Find some kind of referral group like BNI, young businessleaders etc.
