You realize those two things are tied together, right? Your personal freedoms and those symbols?
Without those symbols (i.e. what the symbols represent), your personal freedoms in all likelihood don't exist.
You're the second person to imply that a piece of cloth is the same as the rights of citizens. It's just a stupid ridiculous argument.
"If she really wants to make a statement she should quit the team and say she can no longer represent such a terrible country on the world stage. "
I don't understand why people think what she did was unpatriotic. If anything it's more patriotic to speak up and want whats best for a country, then to burry your head in the sand and pretend whats happening to citizens is just fine.

perpetuaitng racial division isn't "what's best for the country"
beyond that, why would we look to someone like Rapinoe for guidance? 95% of the country's population probably didn't know her name 2 weeks ago. not to mention, her stunt isn't original.

Funk,
If you can't see how the rights of United States citizens and that piece of cloth are immeasurably intertwined, then that depresses me.
That piece of cloth represents the country which grants you those rights. Humans are born with inalienable rights, but those rights are not respected/protected everywhere across the world. There are plenty of examples out there. All you need to do is read the history of the American colonies.
So when someone disrespects a symbol of the country which, while not perfect, is pretty damn good, people are going to get upset.

I pretty much agree with that.
