To answer your question about if it would mess him up if you suddenly took his phone away at 16 for 2 years after he has already had it since 14 and is about to start driving: yeah that’s a bad move especially since he sounds like he behaves for the most part. That would be a great way to make him actually start acting out.

He won't be home till a few hours. I did take it but I am going to give it back. Occasionally I take it and tell him I'm tired of him being on it. I don't think I'm going to take it for good, I agree with you.
