As a urologist, this is the right first step. NSAIDs like ibuprofen and Aleve are the best pain medications typically for testicular pain. That said, he should check your urine for blood/infection (symptomatic stone should show blood) and check you for a hernia.

I get so many self-referrals from guys who end up feeling like they wasted their money seeing me. Generally a good idea to start with primary care.
