On that token, why wouldn't a player like Todd Gurley just go to the Canadian or European league, get paid, be a badass, then enter the draft when eligible? They make money, they get a highlight reel, and get to travel the world.

Why put up with all the bullshite and dancing like a monkey for these Universities?

Unions and greed will lead to the downfall eventually. Just like they did to Detroit.

Remember when Detroit used to be a great place?

Neither do I.

Are the Dawgs one of the schools that will be able to afford players?

Most schools won't. . .you think this will end with football? If this happens, most scholarship athlete in most every sport will demand representation in the Union and a piece of the pie. Schools will literally scrap entire athletic departments, do away with athletic scholarships as a whole, and a lot of kids will be up shite's creek without a paddle. There are a lot of kids from bad situations who are not good enough to go pro but get to go to college for free and better their situations; greed is on the verge of destroying that. Not just greed of the players, either. University presidents, athletics directors, coaches, and fans are all culpable in what we have a allowed "college" athletics to become. The quality of the product is great but many "institutes of higher learning" have forfeited standards in the name of athletics.

Part of me is sad to see this happen, part of me hopes this means we can get back to true student-athletes who truly are students first and athletes second. Kids who get into the schools on their academic merits and not on how fast they can run, who are proud to attend their schools and represent them on the field, instead of looking at college as a stepping stone to the next level.

How the hell can students unionize when they're not employed by the university?

I meant athletics. Most NCAA really don't give two shits about the academic side of things. I honestly believe. Lot of them do not give a rat's arse about the actual institutions that they represent.

Yes, UGA was a stepping stone for me, but it is also a place I hold near and dear. I give back as much as I can to the University because it's something I believe in and something that I love. Don't get that sense from Crowell, JHC, Ealy, or any other bevy of players that have fricked up a very good thing.

There are alot of academics who don't give a shite about the athletic side of things. If a college athletic program can prepare the athlete for the professional world, athletically, what is wrong with that? Why is that less significant than anthropology or forestry?

That's a little bit of a reach right there, if you had insinuated arts and humanities I possibly could get behind that statement.

The anthropology school is under the Franklin umbrella (arts and sciences) I believe. The Forestry school, is important because Timber is one of the biggest industries in the state, but in general, outside of GA, or CA, a forestry degree is worthless. Hell, even in GA or CA, a forestry degree is worthless unless you are going to work at the family farm and Granddaddy said you had to get your Warnell degree or you couldn't get your slice of the pie.

Professional sports is a multi-billion dollar business in this country.

There is a business, an industry there. It's bigger than timber.

It's a hell of a lot bigger than anthropology.

Why not go the Brandon Jennings route if you're a big time high school player and skip college altogether?
It's coming. It's just a matter of when.
There are no current overseas markets for football right now but the CFL might think about it. Why play by the NFL's rules and help them?
The next step is for players to challenge being legally forbidden to work in the pro leagues until a certain age.
With the money the NFL is making I think the anti-trust laws they operate under are archaic

Where are these kids going to get the money to pay taxes on their scholarships? They can't afford to even go out to dinner says most of them. What about students on the Hope, Merit, etc. won't they be considered employees too since they are on scholarship? They help the University profit too. I really hope this actually happens.

Northwestern will be fricked, but the rest of the country and all young kids will realize that unions are not the way anymore. They are greedy dbags that only care about the union leaders. There was a time and place for unions....that is gone. We have a federal oversight now that represents the workers.

frick politics fricking up another great thing we have in America.

And frick Todd Grantham too.

Yes, many people think a union is just a good thing for peoples wages, but its not. As a fellow member of one, I realized quickly that money can get in the way of what they are supposed to stand for.
