If UGA wins it all this year, is Jacob Eason still "a lock" to start in 2016?

He's not "a lock" right now. I don't know if anyone thinks he'll start from game 1 snap 1. Stafford didn't even do that.

I firmly believe he'll start games in his freshman year, but it won't be game 1. YOu can't just throw a TFR to the wolves in the SEC in game 1 unless you are absolutely forced to, and with Ramsey back in '16 we won't be forced to.

But to answer your original question, even if UGA does win it all, I stand by my thoughts. What if we win it all and BR is completely pedestrian? You play the QB who gives you the best chance to win games, period. So we should play whoever that happens to be.

I don't think he's a lock to start right now. Possibly a lock to see PT but not to start.

Only way he starts in 2016 is if Ramsey gives a Mason-like performance or worse. Anything better and Eason will either Redshirt (preferable) or play garbage time as the primary backup.

Ohio State is a case study for this scenario.

Imma praying for a Mason like season from BR or FB...

Give me 24 TD's & only 4 Int's along with our RB's & hopefully improved "D" & call it a day....

Enough. The kid hasn't even played his senior year of high school yet. For all we know, he could be the next:

Mitch Mustain
Anthony Morelli
Xavier Lee
John Brantley
Dayne Crist
Garret Gilbert
Jeff Driskel
Rhett Bomar
Gunner Kiel

Let's wait to see how he handles SEC football.

Expecting either Ramsey of Bauta to perform as well as Mason is unrealistic. Mason threw only 4 interceptions last year and he had UGA's highest completion rate in school history.

Mason detractors are ridiculous.

If Ramsey gives a mason like performance this year, then he is 100% starting next year

Yes, and it will almost definitely mean we won the East.

Also we need to remember that our opener in 2016 is UNC. I don't see Richt starting Easin against a legit team right out of the gate unless BR is just a bad QB.

It's my understanding that the plan all along has been to redshirt Eason his first year.

I would be completely shocked if Eason redshirted.

Is it your understanding because you heard it explicitly from a reputable source, or just because that's what usually happens?

While that's nice and all, you have to admit we had a limited offense because of his noodle arm. I don't care how accurate he was on 5 yard throws.

where did you get that understanding?

Because I'm not sure we have ever in history said a guy who was currently a junior in high school was already going to redshirt when he gets here. We dont' ever usually publically comment on redshirts until the summer or so leading up to a season, and even then they usually say there's cases where guys are on the fence and we won't know til a few games in.

You don't have a guy like jacob eason and bring him in to redshirt him. He will be the best QB on campus the second he gets here....but that doesn't mean he'll give us the best chance to win games right off the bat. Because he won't. There's a pretty steep learning curve. But I don't see any way he rides the bench all of '16.

I actually recall it from an article where Eason himself said that was the plan.

But I could have misremembered.
