ehh, I don't think so. I think it says we're finally ready to start incorporating them again.
Hell it's been 8 years since the bama game and people still talk about that game. If we wore them for UT and lost, can you imagine the response? We might not wear em again in decades.
I like the thought of easing back into them. Wear em a couple times agianst bad/average teams just to remove the stigma. Then in the future if we do wear them against an alabama and lose, it's not that big a deal.

That's fine. But, easing back in to something shows your scared. Does it not?
We had a near-death drowning experience in the ocean, and so now after not swimming at all for a few years, we're going to wade in the piss-warm kiddie pool that's 2 feet deep. Woopie do da! Thats what this is.

We can wear purple for all I care, just win the big games.

well, it kinda can. I guess.
My thing is with this particular situation I look at the risk/reward. There is a major stigma on those jerseys from the public (non-UGA fans) that we simply can't do anything about as of right now. You can't even mention black jerseys without 08 coming up, it's essentially like the AU and UH blowouts never even happened.
So let's say we wear them against UT. We win, great! Teh bama game memory gets moved to the backburner and everythign is great again. We lose, it's disastrous. We'd never hear the end of it. They lose some of their appeal and luster that they have, and it may be YEARS before we wear them again.
So let's say we wear them against ULL. We win, cool. We're back to winning in black and the fanbase is fired up for a game that some might otherwise not be. There is no chance we lose this one.
If we wear them for a major game it's extremely high risk and only moderately high reward (we'd be fired up beating UT regardless of jersey). Wear them for ULL, there's zero risk and somewhat high reward.
Thsi way in teh future it's just "oh, UGA is wearing black today" and not "omg blackout!! Remember 08?"

I blame CMR for getting spooked and not making the case for continuing to wear them. I've mentioned it before, but for a man of faith, he had a lot of ogga-booga stuff that bothered him.

It's late enough in the year to wear black, it helps some with recruiting, and most importantly it's going to help get that game sold out because it hasn't yet.

The stigma it gives is that we're going to break out the special unis for a cupcake. It's weak as frick

Nah,been going since I was 12. Living an hour from Sanford Stadium definitely helps.
Don't we all have one foot in the grave

The entire point of this thing is to make them not "special unis" and just a regular part of our selection, at least that's what I thought.

The black jersey's are a great recruiting tool. Add that to a sleeper home game during heavy recruiting time and you manufacture excitement...
This is a lot smarter than using them as a tool for extra hype during a huge game. The risk/reward is much, much better in this scenario...

Sounds like they are going to make it a regular feature in the CKS era at UGA. Opening it up with a pushover like ULL isn't the worst idea, especially when you consider that not many people were going to get amped to watch that game. This will create an experience beyond sitting butts in the seats to watch some football. Good move.

They'll lobby for a late SECN game. They should.

But if they weren't "special unis" why would we bother bringing them back? The black jerseys were meant to mean something. That's why we started wearing them vs Auburn, Alabama and in the Sugar Bowl.
To me, the AD wants to have its cake and eat it too. They want to say "they're not a gimmick" and then blatantly use them as a gimmick to get people to a game that nobody wants to go to.

Sorry, but that is ridiculous. We barely beat Alabama in OT in 2007 and should have lost.
The jerseys had nothing to do with the loss to Alabama. They were a better "team". Plain and simple.

Georgia controlled that game most of the way. If not for a few poorly timed Stafford picks, UGA probably wins that game by a few TDs.

This is the truth. Alabama whipped Georgia's arse on both sides of the line of scrimmage all night. It wasn't because of the jerseys, it was because they had much better linemen. John Parker Wilson had time to grill steaks before any sort of a pass rush got to him, while it seemed like Alabama's pass rush was getting to Stafford before the snap got to him. Losing Sturdivant before that season was a death blow for that offense.

What the actual frick? How do blow the black jerseys on a damn cupcake?
Posted on 8/30/16 at 5:03 pm to dawgfan24348
They probably don't want to lose a game and then have everyone say that the black jerseys should be burned forever due to some curse.

In fairness, they only asked the FANS to wear black...
