Correct, they went 7-6 their first year and lost to some pretty bad teams, including louisiana-monroe. Can you imagine if that happened to us?

But as you said, he changed the culture. Our culture now, I imagine, is going to be similar if not essentially the same as it was undef VanGorder. Fun time is over, people are going to respect if not downright fear our defensive coaches. Willie was the 180 degree opposite wanting to be pals with everyone, and while grantham had the right hard nosed attitude, he didn't have the on field results to back it up (in addition to not being very good at his job).

What we had from 01-04 was an absolutely perfect dynamic, something that bama has had since 2008. It looks like we're getting back to that, which is good.

They did have growing pains, but those seem pretty trivial now. It's worth it to get the culture right.

You don't build programs by keeping shitty people around in the hope that they don't cause too much trouble.

We know Pruitt can recruit, but the jury is out on him as a DC. Not knocking him, just saying he has a small body of work.

Eeeehhhhhhh......

His body of work may not span decades, but I wouldn't say he's unproven. Like I said he's been a winner at every job he's ever had. Hoover HS was dominant nationally with him, his units at bama were elite, and in his first year at FSU he won a national title.

His body of work may not be very lengthy but it's damn sure impressive.

Not directed at anyone specifically, but I love how all the UGA fans are bitchin and cryin today, saying how bad we're screwed. Think about this: our secondary was young and untested last year, and yet injuries to the offense and a few special teams gaffes are all that kept us from 11-1 or 12-0. Food for thought!

Look, I'm not saying we're absolutely screwed, it's just immensely frustrating to be in a position where a school like UGA is short on warm bodies that can compete in the secondary. It seems like there's always something that holds us back every season.

Bama processes guys that can't make the 2 deep and fills the roster with more 5 stars

They do that now, because they've had a top 2 class in America for like 6 straight years. They still did the same thing when he got there.

quote:

We process guys and we bring guys from offense to play defense

Bruce Thornton started at RB and ended up being a lockdown corner. Robert Edwards started at DB and was a beast at RB. Pollack started at FB before moving to DL. Moving sides isn't always a bad thing.

Plus, while most schools recruit "athletes" and put them on offense, bama recruits athletes or big-bodied tweeners and puts them on defense. Terry was a highly ranked athlete that we're putting on D. Green was an athlete that played DB in HS that we're moving to D.

quote:

What Bama does is ensure from top the bottom they have the best 85 in the country. We are doing something completely different here.

Like I said they have that luxury because they have 5* at every position on the roster and have them deep. We don't, but we're doing the same thing they do.

I agree and don't know anyone who would say otherwise.

Was there some sort of program that Tray didn't follow through on? Seems weird to keep him around only to kick him out later on.

Pruitt better know what the hell is doing!

Floyd, our DB's will eventually grow up and we will have attained depth. The bad thing is, when we get that going our RB, OL, or some other position will be lacking. It's how it goes here. Get used to it.

FWIW...The straw that broke the camels back???

quote:

Note: I’m not pretending to have firsthand knowledge of what led to the dismissal of Tray Matthews, but obviously something was the straw that broke the camel’s back. A student at UGA—someone I know personally and who I have a high degree of confidence in—relayed the following details to me.

Apparently, Tray Matthews was enrolled in a Maymester class. My buddy happened to be in the class (Children’t Literature) with Matthews and roughly 30 other students. According to my pal, Matthews was consistently disruptive and disrespectful during class. Matthews apparently spent most of his class time talking with those around him and would even go so far as to pull out his phone for calls during the class. Again, this is a relatively small class, so you can imagine the kind of distraction that would cause.

His antics culminated on the final day of class (yesterday), when the professor stopped teaching and told Matthews to get out of the class. Matthews feigned an excuse by saying he was “just asking a question,” but the professor had already reached a breaking point. So he reiterated the command adding, “You have been disrupting this class all semester, get our of my class.”

Matthews responded, “Or what?” After a long, awkward pause the professor asked (perhaps rhetorically), “What do I have to do? Call the police?”

Matthews did not leave the classroom and the professor backed off of his threat, but not before commenting that he had never had to stop class like that before in his career. He added (still in front of the entire class) that Matthews was the most disrespectful student he had ever had (in 37 years of teaching).

I had read that it was something in a Maymester class, so that makes sense.

The latest 247 article basically says Grantham without calling him out by name ran loose practices with players cutting up the entire time while Pruitt is a hard nosed attention to details stickler and as a result some players are being weeded out.
