Think it's the circle of life. WR's went big, so DB's followed. Now WR's need speed to separate from/ exploit the big DB's. Soon the cycle will shift back.

I havea theory, but I am not sure if it is right. For awhile we saw WRs that were small and quick thus we had smaller DBs. The WRs began to go big. They could out jump and out muscle the DBs so, the DBs started getting bigger. (I think Pruitt prefers bigger DBs) The thinking being the bigger DBs can then stay with the bigger WRs in jumping and muscle. Now we will see a trend go towards smaller WRs that have quickness to take advantage of a perceived lack of quickness on the part of the bigger DBs.
In my twisted little world it makes sense, anyway.

You aren't alone. You echoed deeprig's post, you just used a lot more words.
It is weird to picture a time when DBs aren't huge, hulking dudes, but if the cycle is real, it will be a reality.

Crap. I should have read your post beofre I posted. I'm glad, though, that somebody else is thinking the same as me.
Be afraid. be very afraid.

I disagree. I think bigger WRs and CBs are here to stay. The smaller kids will still get a shot, but they will have to have greater ball skills and speed.

Agree. There is a place in the game for both. You need big guys to give you an edge up in "jump ball" red zone situations and then you have the little speedster that have a knack for getting separation and getting open. Both types of receivers play a different role and if your team has both it can be a nightmare for defenses. Imagine Odell Beckham Jr and Calvin Johnson playing for the same team.

Go watch his tape doesn't take long to see why he's a 5 star.

2014 Highlights
I think he will make an immediate impact and is literally a perfect weapon for what Coach Schott likes to do. I'm beyond excited to see what he will do next year.

None of this really matters because he's going to play backup safety with Tramel Terry.
It's the Pruitt Way.
You have no idea the extent of TT28's injury.

I've now watched it. Kid has amazing hands and ability to pluck the ball out of the air in crazy situations (ball skills). I can see why the high rating...but I still wonder about the legitimacy of the 5 star based on lack of size combined with what a few people here have said: He's not as fast or as strong as some other blue chip, elite small guys.
So if he isn't as big, isn't as fast and isn't as strong, well....usually, you make up for size with speed and/or quickness and vice versa. It seems, though, that the consensus is that he isn't elite at any of the given measurables, other than ball skills.
Like I said, excited to have him. He does look really good on tape and I think he'll be a great fit in our offense, especially when Eason comes on board (I'm not sold on any of the current crop of QBs, but that's a different topic).

I would say he has elite quickness and burst. Jake Rowe seems to think his top end speed will improve as he gets stronger in a college strength program.
The bottom line is that he's dominated every venue he's ever played in, on both sides of the ball.

And you could be right. Football tends to evolve and change...but it most definitely DOES change over time. It could go either way. There will always be a place for big and small WRs and DBs, but I DO tend to believe the numbers will ebb and flow.
I'm not entirely sure this made any sense at all....but I know what I meant.

I remember we played Auburn and USC one year back in the 80s. They had big WRs. One of our DBs "Greg" was a gifted athlete, but also 5'7". They wore him out. He could tackle 235 lb running backs and could run like the wind, but he just got out bodied by the 6'2 to 6'4 guys. This was like 30 years ago.

Tramel Terry was the best WR we took in his class, and immediately moved him to DB, where he has barely seen the field outside of special teams.
They didn't move him immediately. It was after his redshirt year and after his horrific knee injury.

From what I've read, our defensive coaches actually had been "coveting" him on the defensive side for some time, even before the injury. Grantham and Lakatos liked what they saw and wanted to move him and then approached Richt, who approached the offensive coaches. It started and continued from there and wasn't necessarily related to his injury.
