My biggest takeaway is not seeing anything from my favorite 2013 recruit, Johnny O'Neal. I was hoping he would find a spot in the rotation.

I could picture us in a 4-wide set but with Blaze, Rome, Harris, and Davis split out. Then of course Chubb in the back and I would put Bauta under center for the versatility and fact he can clearly hit the short and intermediate routes with great accuracy.

The mismatches there would be huge. Half the DB's out there are barely pushing 6'0 200. Imagine four 6'4 to 6'6 240-260 lb receivers who can all run well?

We have those four guys, Mitchell, Towns, Tibbs, JSW, McKenzie, Reggie Davis, plus Godwin and Stanley coming in.

We're set at receiver. Stacked even. We're TE U right now.

One of the nice take aways from G Day is that our early enrollees seem legit.

Wilson, Patrick, Ledbetter, etc., all looked like they belonged and will contribute. Also, our transfer (Ganus) and Jr. College pickup (Amechi) both look like they definitely belong.

Good start for the 2015 recruiting class, with some of our best recruits arriving in the Fall.

He was one of mine too but he fits the old DC's mold of an ILB and not so much Pruitt's.

So curious to see how Trent does when he gets into fall camp.

Ya I think we are almost forgetting the No 6 class that is coming in. A bunch of those guys will be contributing to the rediculousness that is already there. God I'm pumped, really thinkin bout buying a plane ticket from Albuquerque to Alanta the first weekend in October. I imagine I could grab a ticket outside the stadium.

I flew direct from ATL to Hawaii. It may take longer with a layover....but 9 hours is too much time on a plane. I don't think I'd want 7 if I could help it either. I almost shite in my seat out of pure hatred when I got off the plane.

I haven't seen the game yet...so I have nothing of value to add about that.

HaHaHa. Imagine how drunk you could get on a 7 hour flight though!! Bet they would cut me off or I would get to Atlanta wasted at 11pm and have no idea what to do.

I watched the first half of the G-Day game and was surprised that I actually thought Bauta looked better than Ramsey. I really haven't expected much from Bauta since he arrived on campus but he looks like he has improved a lot and may have a shot at being the starter. Our QB situation still looks shaky but the defense continues to look like it is improving each day.

Trent Thompson, Roquan Smith, Rashad Roundtree, D'Andre Walker, and Rico McGraw all can and will contribute immediately as well

And then go HUNH into a power set and run up the middle against a nickel/dime defense. That's what those versatile TEs can do for you.

The short passing game can be deadly as New England demonstrated in the SB. A slow, sure, steady drive down field to a score wears out defenses. On second and short yardage mix in some long passes too.

Jake Rowe on Natrez Patrick...

quote:

Recorded the replay of G-Day and went back and watched it closely, focusing on Natrez Patrick. If Roquan Smith is as good as myself and others believe he is and if he and Patrick can stay healthy, Georgia is about to have a good 3 to 4 year run at that position IMO.

Patrick did everything you want at that position on Saturday and his versatility is icing on the cake. He attacks the line of scrimmage and gets downhill quickly. He redirects well and plays with a high motor. He can flip his hips and get into his drops smoothly. He also shows an aptitude for getting after the passer with his ability to convert speed to power on the edge and the flexibility to drop that inside shoulder and turn the corner. That allows Pruitt and Co to do a lot of things with him.

Would never want to set the bar too high with a kid, but I've seen a number of G-Day's and he's the most impressive freshman I've ever seen play in one.

Just watched the G-Day game for the first time last night. Rowe is right on. Natrez Patrick was awesome. I thought Ledbetter was really good too.

Even to me as a very amateur observer, the difference in the defensive talent level from a year ago is obvious. That's my biggest take away.

They're certainly more athletic. I thought it was odd that commentators last year were talking about how or defensive line was too big for Pruitt but this year they are too small.

I don't think they're too small really. I just think they're smaller than what the commentators are used to.

Guys like Ledbetter will fill out some, and Thompson will add another 300+ lb body to the rotation in June.

Yea our defense is looking good and with more talent coming in this summer. Pruitt has an eye for talent and I was surprised with Patrick. Our QB situation worries me but not so much when u think about Schotty's ability to gameplan against another teams defense I think we will be able to exploit match ups that will benefit our offense. Didn't Pruitt compare Patrick to Hightower that's some pretty high praise

Misread that as "Thompson will add another 300+ lb in June". He wouldn't even need to be able to move - just plop his 600lb arse in the middle. Be like Jabba the Hut clogging the gap.
