Having to scoot over there for a few hours today and since I won't be in a position to get drunk or listen to music, I figure BBQ is the next best thing.
Any locals or savants be so kind as to guide me in the right direction?

Pretty sure you can get drunk in any position.
If this is not the case, please advise so I can avoid ever assuming said position.

Sconyers in Augusta is legit.
Get the Plantation Platter and you'll have plenty to take home with you too.

I'd say it's probably Sconyer's but it's a sketchy part of South Disgusta so go in locked n' loaded man.

They seem to be based just over the river in Edgefield S.C. but they are a common sight in Augusta. They can typically be spotted stealing the free condiment packages at gas stations.
As for the BBQ, I can't think of a great place in Augusta but Jeff is correct in that Sconyers is considered decent by most standards and they give you a ton of food.
ETA: I suppose that you can't steal free condiment packages...it should be considered stealing though when there is no mustard left for my hotdog.

hell yeah they are...used to see them at the farmer's market when I visited Augusta, and they have their own little neighborhood around Augusta. there was news story or some random video I watched about them. Pretty crazy. They put aluminum foil in their windows and shite.

I wonder if the gypos still drive Mercedes and wear Hilfiger...that seemed to be the way of things when I was stationed at Ft Gordon in the mid 90s.

When yankees and milk toasts insult Georgians as inbred....its technically correct.
Because of the Irish travelers that live here.

If you get their Plantation Platter its got a little bit of most everything tthat hey offer on it. And the best part is the chopped beef. Especially with their sauce on it. Which is also unique.
I've never thought to order beef or brisket anywhere else in Georgia. If it's even available.

this. Sconyers is so overrated. the best in the area is actually over in New Ellenton, SC but that would be out of the way, I'm sure.

The first time I went to Sconyers and saw beef on the menu I thought it would be Texas BBQ...and Texans know nothing at all about cooking, especially BBQ, and surprisingly steaks....you can't get a decent steak in the entire state of Texas...and beef BBQ is basically pot roast soaked in ketchup...but Sconyers beef is exceptional...
My favorite thing about Sconyers though is the hash...if you ain't eaten BBQ in that part of Georgia and South Carolina and don't know what hash is it is the side dish of choice...served over rice...and it can be very nasty or like something the Gods gave to man to make up for Tennessee....and Sconyers is the best in my opinion. Don't ask what is in it...it has everything in a pig but the squeal....but it is some kind of good.
Brunswick stew is the easiest thing in the world to duplicate...but I would bet there ain't 20 people in the world who can duplicate a decent BBQ hash...

It sounds like you were a loner scooting around with no idea or you were with some folks that didn't like you very much.
Texas beef BBQ is fanstastic.

Beef brisket is far superior to pulled pork in EVERY way. Any moron can cook pulled pork. It takes a special skill to cook brisket, and Texas (Austin specifically) has perfected it.
Soaked in ketchup? I'm not quite sure you know what you're talking about. It shouldn't be soaked in anything.
