Because same philospogy as Richt: The Lord is in charge. If the squib kick failed, it was what the Lord wanted. If we went 6-7, it was God testing our faith.

I have to admit, I was even shocked by the amount of evangelical cultish backlash about his departure.

Personally, I think Richt had a great way to always let himself off the hook...while continuing to collect $4M a year...

I hope Richt is there for the bowl game. Not because he owes the fans or the administration anything. I hope he does it for the reason he stated he gladly accepted the opportunity to coach the game. For the players. The players obviously cared for him, and I don't doubt that he cared for them.

I sort of hope he isn't. I wouldn't mind Richt's final game at UGA being a win at GT.

I wonder if it would come down to us not accepting a bowl because of not enough staff to coach the team.

I don't care if we have 5 people remaining on staff. You accept the bowl game, because playing in a bowl game means 15 more practices, and you should always take that option if you can get it.

He won't be. Use some sense. He needs to start recruiting for Miami, he needs to get to know the current roster, he needs to start putting his staff together, hell he may coach their bowl game.

Think about this, if Smart had been fired by Bama and hired by UGA, do you think he would be hanging around for even this weekend's game???

Richt is gone man.

Use some sense? I didn't say he will, I said I hope he will. And sorry, you're preaching to the wrong man. I've been an absolute Richt critic for years, and you can check 90% of my posts on this very forum since I started...you'll notice a trend.

If I were to make a case as to why he would though (hint: as in absolute fact not a personal desire)

First his comments at his press conference, to paraphase:
"Heck yeah are you kidding me? Another chance to coach those guys, if they didn't offer it to me I would have asked"

Second, he remained to coach FSU as their OC after he was hired by GA. So there is precedent.

15 years ago was a kinder, gentler era.

His comments at the presser were before he got all the attention from other programs and accepted the HC position at his alma mater. That changes things a lot.

I will be stunned if he coaches the bowl game. Stunned.

This.

If he's taken a new job, that's where his focus should be right now.

I don't think Richt should coach the bowl game, not out of anger or spite, but because he's Miamis head coach now. Like how weird would it feel to named the HEAD coach of a team and be the HEAD coach for someone's else for a game

This. If our admins wanted Richt to coach the bowl game, they shouldn't have fired him until after the bowl game. And with Smart's deal not taking effect until after Bama's championship run, we are basically left without a HC for the bowl game. Pruitt is apparently in the dawg house so he won't coach the game. Shitty Shotty is gone so he won't coach it. The water girl won't coach it since she will be going with Richt. I guess one of the assistants who will been retained by Smart will have to step up.

Richt was still in shock when he said he wanted to coach the bowl game.. LINK.... Only way that would work is if he was taking 2016 off. Which I guess maybe he was being urged by family to consider at the time.

He shouldn't feel obligated in the slightest bit. Even after what he said in his press conference.

Onward Richt....

Not sure I understand the link Jefferson Dawg. While it was your original assumption to be the case there is no factual source which states he agreed to coach the bowl game because he was in chock (that I know of). He's not the first coach to agree to coach a bowl game after being fired and he won't be the last. If I were to bet I would say he won't be on the sidelines at Georgia ever again, but I would not mind seeing the players have an opportunity to give him an on field send off.

You might be right about that. Again I only brought those points up as a counter argument. It was never my intention to say that he would coach, should coach, owed it to someone etc...

I agree that he should not coach the bowl game on the same premise that I have seen that Kirby should not coach the Playoffs for Bama. It is free recruiting for the team that you are preparing to take over for. I thank Richt for is his time here, but we need to start fresh and let Kirby get to work for UGA and the same for Richt and Miami. You know that Miami recruits will be watching our game if Richt coaches and given our propensity for sucking on offense, it probably will not help Richt in his recruiting.

Supposedly Mark Richt is about to meet with the UGA team, during their team meeting this afternoon, and inform them he will NOT be coaching the bowl game.

Last game was a W over Tech. DGD Richt!
