WOW. Looks like Stewart tries to scare him a bit, the kid gets close and most of the other cars aren't going as fast as him. Stewart hits the throttle to throw a little dirt on him I guess and the guy gets caught up. The way the kid is just laying there and from the reactions of the "crew?" it doesn't look good.

Severely disabled or dead seems most likely from what I saw

Did Tony Stewart stop to try and help after he ran him over?

I mean how many times has a driver been ran over on a race track? I would not have been able to respond at all to that

At a minimum, Stewart's NASCAR career is over. At most, we are looking at a lengthy trial if Stewart wants to avoid prison.

I guess I'll be that guy, but it looks like the kid was stupid and got too close to the car. Tony hit the gas, but it is hardly clear whether he was trying to hit him or just stabbed the gas driving away. It wouldn't be unheard of, goosing it at someone throwing a hissy fit because they can't drive and want to blame it on you is a standard way to say "frick you, buddy" with your exhaust pipes and tires.

I'm going with tragic accident due to BOTH drivers being too hotheaded based on that video and no charges being filed.

There will be no murder charge. I will be called an accident. The family will get a large sum of money. The young guy getting out of his car will be considered in any liability proceedings as extenuating circumstances. Mark it down.

All that said that is a horrible thing. Such a shame when any young person dies.

Time & Place,

They used to fight in the pits after shite happened and this is a horrible example of why our parents knew better....

Tony has had his share of antics throwing helmets at cars on the track and behavior which without big money NASCAR's blessing would have been curbed in the days of old probably would have cost him all his teeth.

Well now you have the 17 year old who grew up watching all this on TV mimicking his idols and guess what, it killed him dead as well, dead.

Stupidity followed by tragedy a common theme in racing since Ben Hur ran the chariot races in Rome.

He's also majority owner of Stewart-Haas Racing.......which runs the teams and owns the cars of Danica Patrick, Kurt Bush, and Kevin Harvick.

Lots of dominoes ready to fall if this things as ugly as it looks and sounds.

Guys who drive vehicles full of flammable liquids round in circles at high speeds are supposed to eventually die doing so. NASCAR is white trash reality TV. This thread is proof.

You know who I feel sorry for? The children of nascar fans. They are the real victims.

If you watch the video on Deadspin and pause it at the 00:35 mark.........the rear of Stewart's car is not slipped out to the right like most of the articles are claiming. At least not after contact with the victim.

It's the opposite.

After impact, the nose of the car is clearly pointing to the right as the body is under the right rear tire.

If the car just rolled over the man, would this happen?

It appears like Stewart gunned it so hard when he hit him that right rear tire loses traction because it is spinning the victims body and throwing it backwards while the left rear tire still has traction on the track............resulting in the nose of the car turning sharply to the right.

Kid shouldn't have ran down track. But it definitely looks very much like Stewart road-raged out probably trying to scare him.

Worst part of the video to me are the sounds of the panicked crowd yelling that Tony ran him over. I'll be hearing that all day now. Very sad.

First off, I am anything but a racing fan. Never liked Tony Stewart either. Having said that, at what point does someone speak up and say how much of an idiotic act the victim made by thinking he was entitled to start a fist fight on an active race track. Sprint cars whizzing by at high speeds and the kid wants to make a scene right there. Now, he never deserved what he got, obviously; but if you want to start a fight with another driver you should probably fume about it for a bit and catch Tony in the pit area.

As for the accident itself, no one can speak about the intent except Tony Stewart. But it appears like Stewart wanted to scare the kid and just got too close. I am sure that Stewart will say something that absolves him of guilt, though I would imagine his race career will ultimately end because of this.

Tony Stewart could have been drunk for all we know

In the video, all of the other cars stay to the bottom of the track and then Tony Stewart comes up to hit him

HIs lawyers and PR people probably telling him this is the best way to get out in front of the situation. Or maybe he's just a cold-blooded piece of shite with no respect for the life that was lost.

Meanwhile, as Tony drives around a racetrack today...... a family will be making funeral arrangments to bury their 21 year-old son.

This is fricked up.

As I said, I am not a race fan. But even I am aware of Tony Stewart's on track past antics as well as his pretty massive ego. He needs to pay a hefty price as a result of this and the Ward family need closure going forward. He didn't deserve to be run over and killed as a result of racing fender bender.

Or maybe he will die too because he is driving 200 mph in a circle with other cars all full of fuel with only some gay looking jump suite to protect them.
