Hmmm....
So - I wonder how much more toll revenue they expect from GA400 while I85 is shut down.

I'm not sure Jeff is completely wrong. I immediately assumed foul play when I saw what was happening and where.

Really! Didn't know that.
It has to be the Russians then.

If I wanted to cause trouble, I would have started a fire right there with that free fuel. Not to say it wasn't an accident, but it was a great set up at a choke point.
Whoever stored it was trying to keep it out of the sun as it no likey Sun either.... and the crack heads.

There has been talk of a car fire that caused it, but I think that's just folks having a field day with the information vacuum.

To store that stuff in a building, you need a sprinkler system with some serious water demand. To store in under a vital transportation and communications artery is beyond fricking retarded. This could cost a Fire Marhsal his job among folks.
A car fire could have started it, but once it hit that plastic and it got involved, it was over.

Someone I know speculated that it might belong to Google. Many people have been pointing fingers at GDOT over it.
Also another speculation is that crackheads had got in there and were trying to burn off the pvc to get to the copper on the inside and it went up.

If you look at the pic Dawgcountry posted, there is no car fire. And the fence and gate are all in tact.
This is arson.
Only question now was whether it was just crackheads, hoodlums, or whether it is something more sinister.

GDOT says it will take at least several months to rebuild I-85. They will have to repair nearly 700 ft. northbound and southbound.

Looks to me it was stored /stacks over 6' in height, which makes it even worse.

I am completely and utterly ignorant on this kind of thing, but why will it take that long? I'm sure there is A LOT that goes into this kinda thing, but with companies devoting everything they have to get this done (which I imagine would be the case) it seems like it would only take a few weeks. You've got to rebuild the columns, lay the foundation, add the actual road...but why is that a 4-6 month process?

All of the structural components are prefab and made to order. Think about all of the giant overhead beams for the NW Corridor project. They've been working on that for a couple of years now, and they're just getting all of the structural pieces in place.
And that's with planning.
And that's with planning.

Don't they just need to replace like 6 concrete columns? I know I'm missing something but it just doesn't seem like it would need to take that long.

I could easily see it being crackheads trying to get to the copper wire

The columns have to be formed and poured, then they have to cure. The weight of the concrete on itself strengthens it many times over as it compresses and contracts. Putting excess weight on it prematurely weakens the integrity of the columns.

I can't find it now, but there's a hilarious video of one ATL dipshit after another driving blindly into the zero visibility black smoke without any idea what is on the other side. Like sheep following each other into a slaughterhouse.
Unreal how stupid people are.
