Done.

Hire Kirby.

Keep CJP as DC.

Let Kirby hire an OC that has a system he knows is difficult to stop.

We've got Bama's greatest assistant S & C coach ever.

Keep B Mac to run recruiting and produce first round ability RBs.

Sounds like a plan.

In that case of hiring Smart, my idea of full commitment would be ...

Hire Smart (~$3.5M)
Hire Cochran to follow him and run S&C, retain Hocke as asst., 3-4 more S&C assistants of Cochran's choosing(~$500-600K)
Retain Pruitt, whoever he and Smart want on D staff (~$1.2M plus assistants)
Retain BMac (~$400K). Hopefully Lilly as well.
Open the checkbook for a top OC and offensive staff.
Hire 1 more recruiting assistant.
Hire 2-3 quality control analysts.
Build IPF

Then we'd be getting somewhere. Is Georgia ready for that?

Richt v McGarity tension just maybe the conversation has gone.. "stop losing to frickING S CAROLINA and ill throw you some bones. now run along, boy"

That is my summation if there is any truth to these rumors. This is exactly why Mike Bobo was not counter offered, if true.....because there was nothing in the programs performance of late to suggest that a significant raise was in order. Yes, we set records of scoring BUT if you look across the CFB landscape you see that no one plays defense any longer....we have all turned into the big 12 to some degree. If Richt has a sore valine because he isn't given the resources that other schools are given the the answer is really pretty simple....either do more with less ( there are any number of schools who do this) or go somewhere else where he would get the kind of support he feels he needs to be successful.

If you look at the body of work you will see several glaring examples of Richt teams being woefully unprepared.....un-motivated against Florida? Blown out in bowl games or simply not showing up at all on a national stage....consistently shitting the bed in games that are significant..... This is as much a piece of Richts legacy at UGA as winning 2 SEC titles, in a period when winning the SEC east in particular hasn't exactly been that difficult. If Richt wishes to make the case that he is entitled to more support from the University then his best bet is to make that case on the field where he was hired to make such statements. If he is basing any ideas of a lack of support from the University on his track record he is simply a complacent employee who has apparently reached the apex of success in his position and knows it. Want more support? Want an indoor practice facility? Then quit having teams that embarrass the University and more importantly the donors who pay the bills. It would be amazing to see how quick support would be forthcoming if the results on the field had been what they should have been....

The fan base is but the people responsible for the $ I'm sure would rather continue to dick around.

I don't get the fascination with Smart. What makes everyone think he's top level head coaching material other than springing from the Saban tree? If he's so hot, how come he hasn't been hired elsewhere?

I'm far from fascinated with him. Just using him as a fairly realistic example

1) He wasn't countered because mcgarity is a cheap bastard.
2) What more should bobo do to "suggest" a raise is in order? We've only continued to set records on offense under his watch and just led the league in PPG this season...with hutson mason at QB. Not one single loss this season is on bobo's shoulders.

What counter offer do you think would have kept Bobo from taking the CSU HC job?

That is impossible to answer, as only MB can say that for sure.

Really it's more about the principle than the actual dollar amount to me. Bobo is like the 40something highest paid OC in the country (which is absurd just on the face of it), the fact that we didnt' even TRY to counter offer is almost like a slap in the face to him. It's like mcgarity gave him the "well....bye" from tombstone.

I personally don't think he would have stayed for anything less than matching what CSU offered but the fact that we didn't even bother, says a lot.

I agree that it's impossible to know, but if, when he told UGA about the initial interview, they had offered him $1M and a 3 year deal, I'd guess he wouldn't have even met with CSU.

Once the interview process started, I'm not sure a counteroffer would have done anything.

If he wasn't countered, which I don't know is true or not, it speaks volumes about where Richt is as a whole with this administration.

I agree with that. I mean just even the tiniest show of support to let him know he was wanted/appreciated would've been nice. I mean what possible reason would there be to not counter someone with bobo's credentials aside from the fact that ADGM just doesn't like him for some reason, or is just cheap as all hell? I can't think of any.

It's going to be virtually impossible to find someone out there that is as proven as bobo. And we're probably going to hire them at roughly the same price we were paying bobo anyway.

In what way? I don't think it says a thing about richt and says everything about the AD. Hell richt paid his assistants out of his own pocket a few years ago because GM was so cheap. Richt goes to bat for his guys. No counter offer says to me that mcgarity is stubborn as a mule and he decided it wasn't worth the few extra dollars to keep bobo and let him walk just to save a little.

I mean honestly, as far as our OC hire goes we can go in a few directions:

1) Make a grand slam hire (whoever that may be) where we are forced to spend more than what bobo was making.
2) Hire someone at the same level as bobo's salary
3) Hire someone for less than bobo's salary

Choices 2 and 3 don't make us any better off (because the new hire likely won't be as good as bobo) so those are retarded. Choice 1, if there is someone that could step in immediately off the bat and be as good as bobo, is going to cost us more money than he was already making. So in that case, why not just give him a raise and keep him?

Is this the thread where we make up stories about what could've happened and then get mad at the people in our made-up world?
