Actually surprised the extension was just a year. The new salary is more in line with other comparable coaches.

i know, old days DR was the tits. the negativity from 2010 was palpable, it was nice. we certainly wouldn't celebrate giving richt a raise, that's for sure

but seriously, i get the extension i guess but i still have issue with giving anyone raises. he ain't leaving so idk what gives.

ETA: did we mess with his buyout at all?

He basically doesn't have a buyout anymore. His contract is largely incentive-based

i remember that i'm just glad we aren't making it any harder on ourselves. if that's still the case then frick it, give richt a contract through 2020 for all i care

A 400k raise for maintaining status quo is fricking bizarre to me. I wish I could get a 14% raise for almost closing that deal last year.

Rewarding someone for "almost" accomplishing a task defines the pussification of America. I wonder if the athletic department will give all the players all a nice National Championship ring because you know we ALMOST beat bama and we were ONLY 5 yards away

I have no problem with the actual extension, I actually like it because it should only help us in recruiting. My beef is strictly related to the 400K raise.

It's sad how you people can't see through your pessimism to realize the silver lining in all of this . . . .

Look........When Richt's salary is increased by 400K, this means that the government will get to confiscate nearly half of that!!!!!!!

In other words, our wisemen rulers in DC will now be able to use this influx of cash to pay China the equivalent of one one-zillionth of a penny towards the interest on our unpayable debt to them!

Yeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooowwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're saved! Life is gooooooooooooooooooooood!...............

Again, I strictly believe that the 400K could have been allocated more efficiently. IMO it should have been spent on hiring ST and recruiting consults/assistants.

I really don't see how this is pessimistic, I'm not trying to claim that the sky is falling or that it was an awful decision that will ruin the program. I just don't agree with rewarding someone who failed to meet the expectations that were placed on them.

Not sure if it would've helped but it seems like announcing this the Tues. before NSD woulda been a hella lot better than the Tues. after...

I'm assuming it could've been worked out before...

3rd best? Let's wait until the current boy under achiever (no offense) quarterback leaves us once again with no proven starting quaterback. It is not his fault but it is the highly paid coaches fault. He may once again be the 8th best coach along with dodo head the OC. Just saying. All positive.

That and the questionable ability to stop the run. We need to adopt a Gurshall offense that is totally focused on controlling the clock next year to keep our D out of trouble.

If we do that, then the coaches will have earned their keep. This move with CMR was a year too early IMO.

We'll see next season if this raise is worth it. Yes we went 12-2 but our schedule was on the softer side compared to USC or others. If we go 12-2 or better next year then you've got to admit he's worth it.

I do agree the money could be better allocated in other areas and be more beneficial. Like recruiting, facilities, or incentives.

Incentives need to be spread through the entire coaching staff and I mean reasonable base salaries with big beefy incentives.
