Why I think he has earned it to be honest.

Not a ton he could have done about that. He has been one of the top recruiting head coaches in the country since he got here, one tough year doesn't negate that.

I can't speak for Ruckus but personally I'd like to see something other than an "almost" in the conference championship column before I pushed it out another year. Not to mention some verification that 2012 wasn't a fluke and we don't start out next season 1 and 3.

Well, 12 other teams, including Florida, LSU and South Carolina wish they could be saying "almost"
after last season. We had a great season, and almost a magical one.

Hata and cowboy, poor wording in my post, not mediocre just less than I know he's capable of. Cmr is intelligent and has all the qualities I expect in a coach for UGA, but again what drives us to a better outcome? I'm almost to the point of believing the hype that he can't win the big one.

I am in the fullest sense of the word a "fanatic" about my dawgs. I'm the guy that will sit next to the bonfire till it dies tanked off my arse after a loss. I scream at the TV like I'm at the game and couch coach with the best of'em and fwiw I honestly believe he can do a better job. Does he need foot to arse? Does he need a pay cut or raise? Maybe he should pray more, or it might be as simple as saying win or gtfo because cmr your team is stacked and if you frick this up you're a failure as a coach. I don't see him as a failure, but the question is still right there..........

CMR HOW DO YOU FINISH THE DRILL?

I hope y'all don't take this as a fire cmr rant because its far from it. He's a great coach so I expect more from him than I would say from a Goff (unproven) or Donnan (over the hill) type guy.

Not at all and I completely understand where you're coming from. I've had the same thoughts as you at some point in the last couple years. I just think stability is a great quality to have right now and that should not be overlooked.

Like I said in the "what type of fan are you" thread, I'm Disney to dumpster fire on occasion. I'd like to say I'm passionate about my dawgs, but my wife and kids say I'm flat crazy about'em.

I'm realistic with a hint of Disney and that is pretty much how I look at everything.

I would note that 2 of those teams have brought home the crystal football SINCE CMR's tenure at UGA.....and the third has beaten us 3 years in a row.

Well done over the last 3 years...you've already ruined one of the players that carried the load almost single-handedly the last two years and the other will be gone after next season.

As bad as we suck in the SECCG at least we made it. Family squabble here...adults are talking.....GTFO.

I have been a Georgia fan since the day I stepped on campus in August 1964. I have been a season ticket holder since graduating in 1968. I love all things Georgia and have seen the glory days and the Goff days. I'll likely piss off a lot of you but I'll post my thoughts anyway.
Georgia is a terrific school. I loved going there and I love going back for games. But, Georgia as not the elite program some in here think. There is not a history of NCs like Bama, USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, or Ohio State.
Georgia has been a solid top 10 team for much of Richts tenure and that is something most schools can only dream about. Top 5 finishes have been even better.
Last year we came close to playing for the NC and I think this year we will again have a great chance. But if we fall short in the SECCG to the eventual NC then I see no shame in that. We won the respect of Nick Saban (which we haven't had before) and plenty of CFB fans from other schools.
I was in Vermont skiing a few weeks ago and wore a Georgia sweatshirt to lunch a couple of times. Several people stopped by and said the SECCG was one of the best games they had seen in years.
People have respect for Mark Richt, and for the university.
I said earlier that Georgia is not the elite program some think it to be. Well, Richt has brought us to the brink of joining those elite programs. Will he take us the rest of the way? I have no idea, but I'm sure McGarity is trying to decide if he can or not.
Vince Dooley took us right to that elite edge, with Herschel carrying most of the load, but missed on taking us to the top. But it took Dooley 15 years to get us there. Richt is close to that same timeline, so maybe glory is coming. Let's wait and see.

A season that was essentially rescued by a defensive player calling out his teammates to beat FL and about 8 future NFL defensive guys (who couldn't stop the run). Not an exhibition in coaching prowess IMO.

This one kills me. If so...then why have we watched LSU, AL, AU and FL all win championships during CMR's tenure? Hell those classes are more of an indictment IMO than something to put on a resume. We've been HANDLED by teams with lesser athletes consistently for more years than I care to mention.

It is what it is.....

Fannies in the seats, cash rolling in, admin will not take the financial risk of changing Richt out. The admins are perfectly content to play for third or fourth in the SEC and book the bowl from the independence to the outback. 10 - 2 to 8 -4, top twenty most years, with an occasional peek into the top 5.

Adjust your expectations and book the independence to capital one bowl on your calendar and you will be perfectly happy.

If you believe that's the only reason we won after Kentucky then there is no hope for you.

Every year is different. For the most part all the teams you've mentioned are really the only schools in the country that recruit better than us, or on par. And let's be real about Auburn for a second. Their national championship is about as legitimate as my dream of me dating Kate Upton.

Im fine with the raise and the extension doesnt bother me either bc even if I wanted him gone, which I dont, it wouldnt happen. Besides there is no way in hell Bielema should be making more than him.

I would submit that the other reason is that the teams we played with the exception of FL were pretty awful. Even Nebraska was totally destroyed in their championship game.

Look, I'm just saying that I'd like to see another season of success prior to rolling out the checkbook and extending the contract. I don't want to endure multiple 4 loss seasons waiting until the buy out provision become manageable. Also, I don't think contract extensions and $400,000 raises should be automatic just because you don't lose 4 or more games.

I seem to remember them going undefeated that season. Like it or not, that's about as legitimate as it gets. I don't condone what we all think went on there....but they are part of the group that have seen new coaches and national championships over the last several years.
