Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt is attempting to indirectly use the Paul Oliver Network, an entity he started in the wake of the former Bulldogs' suicide to provide help former players with life after football, to educate his players before their college careers even begin.
quote:
"One of the things that Antavious and I have sat and talked about is how good of a job Coach Richt does and we do of helping once we get out of the program and after football -- when we've stopped playing," Bailey told Dawgs247. "One thing we thought that we could kind of add is -- not that they don't do stuff already because they do -- but with the success we've had at the high school level, we thought that we could get out in front of some of this stuff a little bit more instead of doing all of the stuff on the back end."
quote:
The first attempt at expanding the reach of the network will start on Monday, June 1 when UGA's 2015 signees are scheduled to report to campus for summer session. It will be spearheaded by a couple of former Georgia players, Sean Bailey and Antavious Coates, through their company, Breakout Training.
Bailey, who described this year's event as a "freshman symposium," and Coates have spent the last few years building the organization, one that trains student athletes at the middle and high school level both on the football field and off of it, and they encourage the involvement of former Bulldogs.
quote:
They believe new Bulldogs could benefit from learning that, despite their hopes and dreams, there will be a time when the game they love will play a much smaller or even no role in their life.
"I know a lot of guys, myself included, when you are in college or going into college, you have that mindset that you are going to go into Georgia, play three years, be a high draft pick, play in the NFL forever and never have to worry about life after football," Bailey said. "But life happens, injuries happen, and if the NFL doesn't work out, or even if it does workout, you probably aren't Matt Stafford or A.J. Green, so you aren't going to live off that for the rest of your life."

Richt is building a Dynasty.........
..of Righteousness.
When/if the stars ever align and we actually win a national Championship, Richt will be immortalized. There's been plenty of legendary coaches......but, have any of them ever approached this job the way that Richt has? I don't believe so.

Big IF in your post but I agree on all points.
Richt is molding great men from all sorts of backgrounds. What hes doing goes beyond football. But he has got to get the hardware or most will be disappointed. Myself included.

I'll never put him up there with any of the great coaches in CFB... I think he's better than Dooley was at UGA, but he's just a "good/very good" coach, not a great one. Hell Coker & Chizik won nattys...
I root for CMR to win cause I like the dude & think he really cares about the kids & tries to do things the "right way" or at least what he sees as the right way & hope he gets a natty (more for UGA than for him of course) before he leaves...
Even if he does CMR will never be confused with the great coaches in CFB history...

I disagree.
Richt is a trail blazer. A pioneer. Single-mindedly focused on doing things his way. The right way.
And if it turns out that this Righteous path he is blazing can also bring National Championships, then he will become Legendary. And deservedly so.
He will have changed the game.

Richt will need to win two or more national championships to be considered a great coach.

This is the kind of extension of college football into outreach that might well keep CMR at Georgia until he is old and finally ready to retire. Without such outlets, I could easily see him retiring in the next 5 years and becoming a full-time missionary of sorts.
Jeff, I agree that this is another positive step in Richt's career. And I think he will be immortalized as one of the great good-guys in college football regardless of whether he ever wins a national championship. But if he does, Mark will be heralded as one of the few coaches, who against the odds, did it the right way through genuine compassion for his players.

Imma getting senile... I can't tell anymore if you're trolling or not... ...

You're not getting senile. Youre just on the wrong side of this argument..
Dallas, because Richt does things the "right way"...and because he does it this way in a time when the only priority among the successful teams appears to be "win at any cost"......i think that Richt would be able to reach legendary status with fewer MNC's than other coaches would have to win.
You'll see.

He'd become the Gold Standard....

That's the way I see it. If Richt wins a title I think it'll become a trendy feel good narrative among the national media to point out his charity and doing things the right way. Don't get me wrong, those things are true, but it'll be good to see them become a national talking point if/when it happens for us.

I've come full circle on this over the last several years. I'm all in on CMR because I want the good guy to win...and do it the right way. I want him to beat the coaches that have shown they'll cut corners and sell their souls to win at all costs. I want him to beat the coaches that have unlimited resources. College football needs a good guy to win...and do it running a clean program.
All that said - I still reserve the right to bitch if he does something stupid or loses to SC again...
