I'm glad you owned up to it. And I never said I have never sped before. But using a radar detector as a kindly device to remind you to stop speeding is alittle much if you ask me. The point is to evade radar. Why not just set your cruise control? I am an LEO and I usually give 10 warnings for every ticket I give. I understand people cruise and forget sometimes how fast they are going. If that is 20-30 miles over the speed limit that is alittle much and you might get a ticket. If it's 10-15 over I'll give you a pass and send you on your way. If you are truly trying to change your driving habits (whether that's intentional speeding or not) then a radar detector is not the answer. Not trying to jump on you man. Just being real.

I get your angle, but I kinda disagree. We have lane departure warning features built into cars now for a reason. Should those people not simply "change their habit" and pay attention to staying in their lane? Same thing with blind spot detection, collision avoidance, etc. Heck, even your maintenance minder (oil change) reminders aren't necessary if you go by this logic. Just remember to check your oil and fluids on your own. Do we HAVE to have these things? Absolutely not. But they don't hurt. By way of a detector, I'm not trying to cheat you as the LEO. I'm just looking out for myself in minimizing my risk to my insurance, work, etc. They aren't illegal here, so there's no real argument for not taking the extra measure. It's nothing personal against you. I have a great deal of respect for those in your profession and have a great relationship with many local LEOs here.

Why not just set your cruise control?

Truthfully, I have to deal with a decent amount of stop and go on a nine mile trip to work. Setting and adjusting cruise control repeatedly during that 13 minute period is annoying, not to mention distracting. It's good for interstates and major roads on longer trips. It's not practical for me on the day-to-day.

I wish I'd come across you when this stuff happens. You sound alright. It's just been my luck that your counterparts in the areas I've been popped have never felt the same. And even though I haven't had a lot of run-ins in the last 12 years or so, I had a few when I was younger (didn't get my first ticket til 20 years-old, which I thought was pretty darn good). I've never had a radar detector, but since no LEO has been particularly forgiving in my experience, I'm starting to think the extra protection is not a bad idea.

Full disclosure here...I'm not. My driving habits are actually pretty darn good. There's a reason that 21 years in, I have yet to have an accident and that tickets, while existent, have been few and far between (in spite of driving faster than I should have been in my younger days). I do pretty well 99% of the time. That said, I'm human and I do lapse in that on occasion.

Again, it's a legal measure and just an extra layer of protection that I don't think is a bad idea. Maybe if I'd run across more LEOs with your mindset, I might see that differently. But if they're going to take every opportunity to pop me, I'm not going to feel obligated to make it any easier for them. That's just me.

You're alright, though.

Well, I was not trying to judge you. Just most people wanting radar detectors are doing it for the wrong reasons. I make mistakes to when I drive and my mode of thinking is that, if it is something I find myself doing from time to time by mistake (or intentionally) then I shouldn't be handing out tickets for it. Some officers don't see it this way and that is wrong. Sometimes mercy (whether on a traffic stop or elsewhere) can administer justice more than writing a citation or taking someone to jail. Hope it works out for you man and you seem like a cool dude too!

You're a good one. That statement tells me all I need to know. Don't change.

And no worries on the downvote!

Been running radar for 22 years and all these things are going to do is let you know that you've been caught or that someone near you has been caught. Spend your money and help the economy if you want. They tend to give the owner a false sense of security and nothing more really.

So nobody uses the Waze app?Best freakin "cop detector"

I use Waze when I go long distances (driving to FL or on road game trips)

Usually set cruise at about 9 mph over and get to where I'm going just fine and faster than normal. Usually don't have to worry about cops, either, as there's always 2 or 3 folks zipping by me that get nailed before I ever do

How fast were you going? Were you in atl? Just curious. I never got speeding tickets in atlanta because there is usually someone else going 100...while brushing their hair.

Me too, without a radar detector, and it seems to work fine. I'll leave the fast track stuff to you young bucks.

15 over (60 in a 45). It's a two-lane, quasi-rural (I say that because it sits parallel to 316) road. Most days, I'd have been on 316.

You're totally right about Atlanta, though. Commuted to downtown from the Bogart area for three years. You see a lot of crazy stuff in rush hour traffic.

I've slowed it down as I've aged.

I can remember doing some terrible things to get out of tickets...none of it sexual.

I've seen one turn around and I've sped up and hid in someone's garage.

Faked an asthma attack.

One stopped me and I knew he was screwing around on his wife....

Yes, he did, but no, it won't. Super Speeder is 75+ on a two-lane road or 85+ on any road over two lanes.
