If you want to try my method I've always had good luck bank fishin around dusk with rooster tails. Not an expensive lure, generally multipacks gets a good variety.

If you're too good for live bait, then an $0.88 cent beetle spin from walmart would probably do for that kind of fishing.
I've had my best luck with the plastic lizards...

Also - I saw a MONSTER under a log about 4 yards off the bank. I about hit him in the head with everything in my box - if he had a hand he'd have flipped me off.
did you any kind of noise making crank bait or rattletrap?...HE may have been a SHE sitting on a bed under that log...gotta piss em off to get them to hit in those conditions....or you could change your casting angle and drop a rubber worm...texas rigged...over the log and work it up an down over and over...just my .02

That's how I caught my 10.5 lb one - she was on a bed and I threw a lizard over it and twitched it over the bed. Man that was some fish...I'd post a pic but I'm in it
Of course I released it...

My first BPS order was probably 1978..... Money I won playing penny ante poker at my grandfathers house paid for an Ambassadeur 5500 C!

OT: BassPro Shops Trust me...I'm not too good for a worm and a float. That's my mainstay. I just didn't think that work for anything other than bream - especially bass. I don't buy expensive lures - when I'm
All joking aside don,t discount a Canadian night crawler for spotted bass and largemouth.....the lake you mention is full of both as is Lake Lanier. They are both also full of boat docks with brush piles......it ain't Bill Dance but.....hook a night crawler right in the middle on about a 1/0 wire hook....no sinker, no float....just basically flat lining a night crawler. Use spinning tackle.....8 pound is fine.....and skip that night crawler under the docks....like you'd skip a rock....low to the water, almost side armed....and a night crawler will skip 7 -10 feet back under a docke....leave the bail open and let that worm fall deeper and deeper under the dock and into the brush pile under it....bream will hit first and will eat several worms BUT the bass are there and they are interested.....eventually they will have enough of the bream getting that easy meal and will become VERY aggressive.....and every dock on each lake will hold several good sized spots.....

I got one smallish bass on a plastic worm - which was my only action
Here's the deal.
You went fishing and you caught a bass.
Success.

Here's how I fish docks. 12 ft rod. Pull out 1 foot of line. Open bail. Hold rod horizontal and bend back rod by the tip about 90 degrees. Let tip go and bait will go under dock nicely. Practice in the back yard to get your technique and aim right.

I tried that with my zoom lizard - but couldn't get any interest. Glad to know I was on the right track.
Some good insight in this thread - thanks!

Agreed. I was a hero at the Cub Scout camp.

An even better technique....much less noisy than skipping a bait...but takes some fairly specialized equipment that some folks might not have...highly effective though

Every damn time the commercial for this store comes on my tv (frequently while on ESPN) my 6 yr old loses his mind. Starts begging me to take him there. Closest store is over an hour away

Take your son. Make a day of it and take him early, shop with him till 1, then take him to his favorite place for lunch and talk about what he liked at the store. You and he will treasure those days forever.
I used to take my daughters to Lowes or HD, or to Pikes Nursery, on Saturdays from the time they were in baby strollers. Gave the wife some rest time and me some love time with them.

I've heard the new Cabela's superstore is great, but the problem with that is that I have to drive past a BPS and an REI to get to Cabelas, not to mention a half dozen Walmarts.
So I'll probably never make it to Cabelas.
